Job Summary

You will need:

University degree in climate change environmental sciences economics engineering or other related fields preferably at post-graduate level or its equivalent.

At least 6yearsof work experienceincluding international level in the development design and managementofclimate projects technology policy finance and development experience working in several countries.

Understanding ofclimate change analysis and policy including international climate change negotiation history set-up of global frameworks and country policy positionsas well as national climate policy implementation arrangements.

In-depth experienceinworking with multiple stakeholders preferably in Asia and the Pacific.

Strong multidisciplinary competence combined with substantial and demonstrated experienceofapplying climate changeadaptation or low-carbonconsiderations within development work.

Familiarity with operations policiesand procedures of multilateral financial institutions is preferred.

Ability toutilizeand share relevant knowledge tobenefitthe broader ADB communityand support knowledge transfer.

Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.

Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills to articulate and represent ADBs activities and directions in conferences and workshops dynamicallyparticipatein networks and interact effectively with ADB management staff and counterparts in other institutions.

Excellent team player and experience in leading diverse teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Additional Information

This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.

This is a fixed-term appointment for an initial fixed period of 3 years. At the end of the initial period this appointment may at the option of ADB be extended once for up to 2 years converted to a regular appointment or ended on its expiration date. This decision will be made in the overall interest of ADB that: (a) it will require Staffs particular blend of skills and experience in the foreseeable future; and (b) Staffs performance is satisfactory and they are suitable for further employment.

Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The position of Sustainable Solutions Specialist is assigned to the Climate Change Resilience and Environment Cluster (CCRE) within the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD). CCSD leads thematic operations knowledge innovation and partnerships. You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila.

You will report to the Director Climate Change and will oversee junior team members.

Your Role

As a Sustainable Solutions Specialist you will supportdepartments across ADBin the monitoring and implementation of climate actions underADBs Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP)andrelated activities including thecoordination of the Climate Change and Disaster Resilience(CCDRM) community ofpractice activities aroundthe Conference of the Parties (COP) of theUnited Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and other relevant corporate responsibilities. TheSpecialist willdevelopcoordinate andmonitorprogramstoolsand investmentsto supporteconomically efficient climate-resilientandlow-carbondevelopment inADBs developing member countries (DMCs).

TheSpecialist willsupportinternal analytical and strategic initiativesin the context of the CCAPandin support of the CCDRM community of practice and otherbank-wide climate initiativesto furtherembedclimateaction acrossoperationsto achieve ADBs climate ambition andto further strengthen ADBsposition as the regional climate Specialist will promote multilateral and regional cooperation particularlythroughpartnerships and networks on climate change.


You will:
Monitor CCAP implementation

Oversee monitor report on and communicate ontheroll-out andimplementation of the CCAPand specific actions for a range of stakeholders.

Oversee the preparation of the CCAP mid-term reviewand organize outreach activities and knowledge sharing events as climate actions are implemented.


Coordinateand support the CCDRM community of practiceand Climate Action Coordination Committee

Coordinateand supportthe CCDRM community of practice and the Climate Action Coordination Committee and provide support to working groups to beestablishedforkey CCAP deliverables.

Organize knowledge sharing eventsto support the implementation of ADBs climate agendaand to integrate climate adaptation and mitigation considerations into the development agenda across ADBs engagement and project cycle. Drive increased use of digital and knowledge solutions.


Support strategic climate initiatives knowledge generation and sharing

Providestrategic and technical leadership to relevant internal work streams ofCCSDunder theCCAP and coordinate the associated corporate requirements.

Help to drive the use of digital and Contributeto the strengthening of global and regional partnerships and inter-agencyrelationsincludingpublic-private-civil society partnerships to support ADBs climate change agenda.


Provideoperationaladvice andsupport

Lead or support thedesignprocessingand/or implementation of technicalassistanceto support or develop investments knowledge services and capacity building related to climate change.

ExtendassistancetoADB operationsto incorporate advanced climate technologiesand carbon financein ADB operations and to address climate change issues.
