Description of Assignment
Researchcurrent AI technologies relevant to mechanical engineering. Identifyengineering processes within the department that could benefit from AI integration. Evaluatefeasibility and potential impact of AI use cases. Prototypeone or more AI-based solutions (e.g. using Python MATLAB or low-code platforms). Documentfindings and present recommendations to the team.
Scope of Work
Phase 1: Orientation & Research
- Understand the departments workflows
- Conduct a literature and market review of AI applications in mechanical engineering.
- Interview engineers to identify pain points and opportunities.
Phase 2: Use Case Selection
Select 23 promising AI use cases (e.g. design optimization anomaly detection document classification).
Phase 3: Prototyping
- Develop a proof-of-concept for one selected use case
- Use available tools (e.g. Python TensorFlow OpenAI API Power Automate etc)
- Test the prototype with real or simulated data.
Phase 4: Evaluation & Reporting
- Assess the performance and usability of the prototype
- Provide recommendations for further development or implementation
- Present findings to the engineering team and management
Department Description
As part of our continuous improvement efforts we are exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can support and optimize engineering processes from sales design to delivery up and to service. Our department is responsible for translating the as sold sales design to a completely engineered baggage handling system taking into account increasing customer demands. With systems getting larger and more complex generating the necessary output for project execution is getting more and more complex. This internship aims to identify evaluate and prototype AI applications that can bring measurable value to our engineering department.

- Basic programming knowledge (Python preferred)
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving
- Interest in AI and (mechanical) engineering innovation
- Communication and documentation skills
