The Environmental Health & Safety Manager would oversee an assigned region covering a number of conjunction and cooperation with existing Regional Safety Managers the incumbent will be tasked in overseeing all Health and Safety for the region. The EHS Manager will ensure compliance throughout all Company H&S Policies and will work directly with both hourly and salaried site personnel to improve our overall safety culture and will play an important role in maintaining the EHS culture. The EHS Manager will also assign work and manage workloads of subordinate HSE staff provide guidance and feedback for team members in accomplishing tasks and goals set expectations and clarify responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Develops and implements environmental compliance programs contingency plans and best management programs.
Assist in the implementation of occupational health and safety programs meant to ensure the wellbeing of employees contractors or visitors.
Ensures compliance with applicable environmental regulations and standards including active disposal site permits storm water plans and underground /aboveground storage tanks.
Audits and assist in the proper documentation and investigation of accidents or injuries and guides implementation of corrective measures meant to reduce future risk.
Tracks participation in environmental health and safety related training.
Maintain a working knowledge of safety theory regulations and Company policy.
Conduct specialized training for all company branches on request.
Review the record keeping process and branch filing for safety meetings DOT logs and files VCRs and vehicle inspection reports.
Assist in generating monthly DOT and safety subject matter and annual themes.
Conduct random audit in each division.
Conduct observations from a variety of perspectives including landfill in cab pre/post trip and randomly conduct blind observations.
Develop new ways to monitor and conduct new-hire driver training.
Provide leadership in the continuing participation in SWANA Rodeos.
Maintain a working knowledge of basic environmental principles and standards.
Evaluate facility conditions which require the application or changes in permit.
Communicate with federal and state environmental agencies for permit applications modifications or renewals.
Review Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans on annual basis for compliance with federal and state regulations.
Coordinate the sampling of storm water and/or its contracting from an outside source.
Schedule and conduct Coaching the Refuse Truck Driver classes.
Attend safety transportation and environmental classes for continuing education.
Seek ways to minimize accident/injury frequencies and severe losses to the Company.
Conform in all respects with applicable federal state and local laws regulations ordinances and other orders and to all company policies procedures and directives from supervisors.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.
Requirements:
Four (4) year degree in safety environmental management or technology.
Minimum six (6) years experience in risk management or related field.
Certifications in IOSH OSHA and/or EMS preferred.
Possess valid state drivers license.
Combination of education and/or experience.
Operate standard office equipment (i.e. copier facsimile personal computer etc.)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to write moderate level correspondence to employees management and vendors via internal and external memorandums and reports.
Ability to effectively present information to management or others in a group or individual setting.
Ability to follow instructions and work under limited supervision and heavy deadlines.
Ability to effectively communicate with Demands:
Ability to sit stand walk talk use hands and fingers stoop kneel and reach.
Ability to lift/push/pull up to 15 pounds up to 1/3 of the time.
WorkingConditions:
Work in indoor environment 60% of the time.
Environmental noise level is usually moderate to loud.
Occasionally exposed to loud noise humidity hot and cold weather conditions moving mechanical parts vibration toxic and caustic chemicals fumes and airborne particles.
Early morning start times are occasional to frequent.
Extensive travel is required.
