The Load & Haul Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily production activities related to loading and hauling operations in an open pit mining environment. This role ensures safe efficient and cost-effective movement of material while meeting production targets and maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Supervise and coordinate daily load and haul operations including excavators shovels haul trucks and support equipment
- Monitor production performance and ensure targets for tonnage cycle times and equipment utilization are achieved
- Enforce all safety policies procedures and regulatory requirements
- Conduct pre-shift meetings and safety briefings with crews
- Identify and mitigate operational risks and hazards
- Coordinate with mine planning drilling & blasting and maintenance teams to optimize workflow
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity downtime and fuel usage
- Ensure proper dispatching and allocation of haul trucks and loading units
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions
- Train mentor and evaluate operators and crew members
- Maintain accurate shift reports and documentation
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or GED (required); technical or mining-related degree preferred
- 5 years of experience in open pit mining operations
- 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role
- Strong knowledge of load and haul equipment and mining practices
- Familiarity with dispatch systems (e.g. Modular Wenco)
- Understanding of mine safety regulations (e.g. MSHA in the U.S.)
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand sit demonstrate manual dexterity climb stairs talk hear and see.
- Must be able to work shift work with 12-hour shifts.
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the workday.
- Work is in a surface mine plant setting which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity.
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine environment including hard hat hearing protection safety glasses safety footwear and as needed respirator rubber steel-toe boots protective clothing gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
