Job Summary

We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Islington to assist with the appointment of a Senior Traffic Engineer on a 3-months contract highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: 28.79 - 38.39 per hour

Summary:

As a Senior Traffic Engineer for the London Borough of Islington you will play a pivotal role in transforming the boroughs streets into safer greener and more accessible spaces. You will lead the delivery of complex traffic engineering schemesranging from Liveable Neighbourhoods to strategic cycle corridorstaking projects from initial feasibility through to final implementation. This role requires a blend of technical AutoCAD mastery project management and the ability to mentor junior engineers within a fast-paced local authority environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical design of traffic and transportation schemes using AutoCAD ensuring all designs comply with current legislation (TSRGD) and best practice guidance (LTN 1/20).
  • Manage the full project lifecycle for safety schemes bus priority improvements and parking amendments ensuring delivery remains on time and within budget.
  • Prepare technical reports and represent the service at public consultations and meetings with residents ward councillors and external partners like TfL.
  • Conduct site visits and technical assessments to identify innovative engineering solutions to complex urban traffic challenges.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering Transportation Planning or a related discipline (or equivalent demonstrable experience).
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (MICE or MCIHT) is desirable but not essential if significant experience is shown.

Essentials:

  • Expert-level command of AutoCAD for 2D traffic engineering design. Experience with specialized software (e.g. KeySIGN KeyLINES) is an advantage.
  • Deep understanding of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) and the Manual for Streets.
  • Direct experience in designing and implementing Low Traffic Neighborhoods (LTNs) cycle infrastructure and pedestrian safety improvements.
