Job Summary

Job Title: Tax Collector (State of Arizona)

Location: Greater Phoenix Metro Area (Local Candidates Only)
Start Date: Tentative-dependent upon interviews onboarding completion and issuance of PO by the state agency.

  • Must be up to date with Arizona state taxes.
Position Overview

The Tax Collector is responsible for collecting delinquent tax liabilities for the State of Arizona and participating counties and cities. Tax types may include Individual Income Corporate Income Withholding and Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT).

This role involves contacting taxpayers via phone and conducting field visits to residences workplaces and business locations. The Collector will educate taxpayers promote voluntary compliance and establish payment arrangements when appropriate.

Success in this role requires integrity strong judgment excellent communication and a positive service-focused attitude.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review taxpayer accounts and verify gather and update essential information.
  • Educate taxpayers on online resources current tax policies and compliance requirements.
  • Document actions in multiple systems with accuracy and consistency.
  • Participate in team engagement activities and meet performance expectations.
  • Contact taxpayers by phone regarding delinquent tax liabilities.
  • Schedule and conduct field visits to residences businesses and/or workplaces.
  • Review financial statements assess supporting documentation and guide taxpayers on achieving compliance.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements when appropriate.
  • Participate in the seizure and sale of property/assets to satisfy delinquent tax liabilities.

Required Experience
  • Two consecutive positions each held for at least one full year in a fast paced call center environment.
    • Industries may include finance/banking insurance or telecommunications (not technical support).
  • Note: Switchboard or dispatcher experience does not qualify.
Preferred Experience
  • Participation in process improvement initiatives
Education
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate degree or higher
Additional Requirements
  • Candidates must be able to:

    • Pass all pre employment background checks including state and federal criminal checks fingerprinting and 5-year Arizona tax filing review
    • Attend in-person Day 1 orientation
    • Work a flexible schedule within operating hours: 7:45 AM 5:15 PM Monday Friday
    • Complete 3 6 weeks of mandatory onsite training 8:30 AM 5:00 PM (attendance is critical)
    • Transport equipment between office and home (desktop 2 monitors keyboard mouse headset)-public transportation not allowed
    • Provide hardwired internet access or bring a 5G router on Day 1 for IT configuration
  • Hybrid work structure after training

  • Short job tenures may disqualify a candidate

  • Operating hours after training: 8:00 AM 6:30 PM (schedule will fall within this range)

  • No set end date for this assignment

  • Positions may lead to future permanent employment based on performance dependability and culture alignment
