Position Description
In preparation for the June 2 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions to join the District Support Team. This team of approximately 25 members assists in supporting 501 polling places.
In addition to the duties outlined in the 1402 job code District Support Team staff will be expected to:
- Participate in a paid 8-hour training session on May 22 2026.
- Begin work on Tuesday May 26 2026 and continue on weekdays until Tuesday June 2 2026. Duties will include driving a City vehicle to deliver equipment to polling places before Election Day and retrieving equipment after Election Day.
- Work approximately 20 hours on Election Day on June 2 2026. Duties will include driving a City vehicle to and from approximately 30 predetermined polling places within San Francisco ensuring compliance with state and federal accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) such as:
- Installing accessibility features such as signage threshold ramps and other hazard mitigations.
- Monitoring polling place setups throughout the day for ADA compliance.
- Reporting any issues to the Department.
Please note that applicants must possess a valid California drivers license and be able provide a driving record from the Department of Motor vehicles prior to receiving a conditional offer.
Position Schedule Requirements and Work Location
Travel within the city is required daily. Work location will also vary within the San Francisco area. Position will require standing for a prolonged period of time driving to various sites setting up and using various computer software and equipment (e.g. voting equipment etc.) lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
This is a short-term assignment that begins on Tuesday May 26 2026 and ends on Tuesday June 9 2026. General work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm and up to a 20-hour day on Election Day. Actual assignment start and end dates as well as work hours will be determined by the Departments operational needs. There may also be additional weekend tasks that may need to be completed on as needed basis. Overtime hours are paid at 1.5 the hourly rate.
This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents filing use of office equipment public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.
Substitution:
Any one of the following may substitute for the required experience:
Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR
Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
- Ability to work up to a 20-hour day
- Ability to track and address numerous high-priority tasks simultaneously with a professional and confident demeanor
- Diplomatic and conscientious people-management skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to use or learn how to use a smart phone to track Election Day tasks
- Ability to safely drive and park a large vehicle (minivan or SUV) within City of San Francisco
