Custodian

Routine cleaning and maintenance; highly visible areas are cleaned on a regular basis including but not limited to:
oVacuum office areas weekly
oEmpty trash containers in common areas
oTransfer trash from collection hoppers to dumpster
oWipe windowsills window interiors
oMaintain vinyl flooring including stripping/waxing as required
oStairwells are maintained
oPapers and other work-related materials are not to be disturbed in workstations and offices
Major cleaning (production areas)
oProduction area walls floors ceilings are kept clean and done so in a safe manner. Floors are to be kept cleaned and waxed to reduce particulate contamination. Major activities coordinated with Production personnel.
oAll production parts tooling. And other miscellaneous production related materials are to be protected. Materials and tools are not to be relocated by Custodians without Production personnel approval.
oAll hazardous materials whether owned by the Production department or Physical Plant department are to be handled in a safe responsible manner.
oAll cleaning chemicals are to be properly labeled.
oEnsure that all regulatory programs are adhered to specifically the procedure for introducing new chemicals into use.
oSpecial training is required to ensure compliance with accepted clean room maintenance practices.
Equipment/machinery
oLearn proper method of using machinery prior to use. All custodians are to be capable of using floor stripping and waxing equipment.
oFollow proper maintenance schedules and practices for all machinery.
oCoordinate repairs with Physical Plant technicians if unable to safely perform repairs.
oMaintain an appropriate level of consumable parts e.g. belts rubber wiper blades etc.
oEnsure proper operability of rest room equipment e.g. soap dispensers paper product dispensers.
Grounds maintenance
oAssist Physical Plant technicians and outside contractors in snow removal on walkways around campus buildings.
General
oMaintain appropriate stocking levels of cleaning materials and paper products.
oReplace lighting in general areas when cleaning as required. Advise Physical Plant electricians of lamps that custodians are unable to replace.
oSupplement plant security by monitoring activities of outside contractors as required.
oCheck all building perimeter doors to ensure that they are secure at the start of shift.

Education & Experience

High school graduate
Three (3) to five (5) years work experience with a minimum of two (2) years experience in custodial work within a manufacturing environment.
Experience in operating machinery associated with the position helpful. Strong preference for experience in maintaining production areas and clean rooms.
Experience preferred in floor care mechanics and proper operations of floor machines correct chemical mixtures etc.

Various interior and exterior including plant floor office areas grounds
Exposure to noise dust fumes
Exposure to hazardous chemicals used on-site

Safety Requirements

All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and II-VI Corporate EHS standards.

Depending on location this position may be responsible for the execution and maintenance of the ISO 9000 and/or other applicable standards that may apply to the relevant roles and responsibilities within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
