JOB SUMMARY:
Under the immediate direction of the Nurse Manager Cardiac Catheterization assists physician and medical team in preparing patients for and performing interventional procedures; i.e. left and right heart catheterizations heart biopsies angioplasties (coronary and peripheral) atherectomies coronary ultrasounds interaortic balloon pump insertions coronary stent procedures electrophysiology procedures and valvoplasties.
MINIMAL ACCEPTABLE JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Registration/Certification/Licensure:
- Current state licensure and registration (or eligible) with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT).
- Current Indiana State Board of Health General Certificate for Radiographers;
- CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) within three (3) months of hire.
Experience: - Minimum of six months to one year of progressively more responsible experience providing cardiac catheterization or clinical special procedures.
Education:
- Successful completion of a radiological diagnostic education from an accredited program.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
1) Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language verbal and written.
2) Requires thorough working knowledge of radiographic methodologies and equipment utilized in the performance of invasive procedures for use in interventional radiographic services. Requires demonstrated radiology photography skills including darkroom techniques.
3) Requires general working knowledge of the normal growth development related behaviors needs comfort and range of treatment appropriate to the age (including adolescent and aging adult) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.
4) Requires working knowledge of cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures and respective radiographic operations in electrophysiology/cardiac cath lab.
5) Requires knowledge of aseptic principals and techniques.
6) Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills in order to conduct appropriate tests and monitor test procedures and results in order to detect equipment malfunctions and improper techniques.
7) Unit specific knowledge required within six months of employment: must have acquired a working knowledge of cardiac and electrophysiology invasive and non-invasive procedures utilizing related equipment for cardiac patients including interaortic balloon pump stents ultrasound PTCA balloons technical radiological support scrubbing and supportive intervention for patient support. Successful completion of EKG class and CPR. Responsible for technical radiological support and scrubbing.
8) Demonstrates well developed interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers as needed.
