About the position

Do you want to work at the nexus of Arctic policy science communities and international collaboration Arctic Frontiers is seeking for interns who thrive in an international and fast-paced environment. We offer two full-time Intern positions for a period of 7 months (August to February) primarily for our Young program.

The interns will spend approximately 50% of their working time with Arctic Frontiers Young program portfolio. The remaining working time is devoted to organizational tasks especially related to event organization and management. These positions provide unique insight into the organization and development of a large international arena.

Tasks:

The interns will arrange and coordinate the activities under Arctic Frontiers Young portfolio as a part of the team and guided by senior staff members. Traditionally this portfolio includes activities from kindergarten to high schools university students and young professionals. There are two internships available:

Internship 1

This specific internship will focus on the coordination of bachelor and masters level students who participate in the Arctic Frontiers Student addition the intern will oversee young participants of the Arctic Frontiers conference and outreach activities. An aspect of this intern position is coordination of young participants from Canada and outreach to North American organisations.

Internship 2

This specific internship will focus on organising the younger parts of the program: Science for Kids and Science for Schools. This will require contact with Norwegian scientists and institutions in northern addition the intern will oversee the recruitment and tutelage of volunteers for the Arctic Frontiers conference.

To gain a holistic overview of the organizations operations the interns will also work on tasks related to event organization management production and communications. The interns will work as an integrated part of the cross-disciplinary team at Arctic Frontiers and will also be assigned to tasks supporting other activities coordinated and implemented by the administration.

These positions offer an international job environment in a highly professional team with a great possibility to gain a unique insight to Arctic cooperation across disciplines as well as various practical skills in event and project management. Necessary guidance and training will be provided by the senior members of the team.

Qualifications required for the position:

  • Student at preferably Masters degree level (recent graduates are also encouraged to apply).
  • Excellent language skills in English (the working language of Arctic Frontiers is English).
  • Knowledge and experience in using social media in a professional context is an advantage.
  • Experience in arranging seminars workshops conferences are an advantage.

    In addition the following specific criteria will be considered for each internship:

    Internship 1
  • Experience of the North American Arctic and knowledge of the Arctic universities and institutions.

    Internship 2
  • Working level Norwegian language skills in both written and oral.
  • Experience of working with young children is an advantage.

    The internship can form a part of the candidates studies ensuring that the candidate is affiliated with an institution. The candidate (together with the affiliated institution) is responsible for having all the necessary documents in place that will allow the candidate to travel stay and work in Norway.

  • Ability to work independently and maintain positive working relationships with other members of the team.
  • Outgoing personality comfortable with reaching out to and communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Proactive working attitude ability to manage time effectively and attention to details.

    This position is an intern/trainee position and remunerated accordingly. It is a full-time position from August 1st 2026 to February 28th 2027. The position is based in Tromsø Norway and you must be able to live and work in Tromsø. Please note that remote working is not possible. Tromsø is a vibrant and international city in northern Norway with around 70000 addition to offering a large variety of restaurants bars cafes and cultural events the city is a great starting point for outdoor activities whether you prefer hiking fishing hunting or skiing.
