Amazon RIVR is a robotics company pioneering Physical AI through real-world doorstep delivery. Founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off RIVR developed wheeled-legged robots designed to operate in complex unstructured environments such as stairs gates doors and uneven urban terrain. We believe that achieving general physical intelligence requires solving real customer problems in the real world where robots can learn from rich operational data at scale.
Following our acquisition by Amazon in March 2026 we are continuing this mission with greater reach and speed. By combining custom robot hardware onboard autonomy and cloud-based coordination Amazon RIVR is building the next generation of safe reliable autonomous robots for last-mile delivery
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Robotics Wireless & Network Engineer to take ownership of the critical communications backbone for our fleet of delivery this foundational role you will design implement and optimize the communication backbone connecting our robotic fleet to the cloud and remote supervision systems. This role combines deep wireless networking knowledge with robotics middleware integration building the full data transport layer that enables reliable low-latency and secure operation of our robots.
What youll be doing
- Network Architecture & Design: Define and implement robust scalable and secure network architectures integrating 4G/LTE 5G (URLLC) Wi-Fi and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC).
- Wireless Optimization: Evaluate and tune wireless performance (RF antenna placement signal reliability) to ensure ultra-low latency and high-bandwidth communication.
- Middleware Integration: Develop and maintain real-time data flow between the robot and the supervision stack using ROS2/DDS WebRTC and gRPC.
- System Reliability & Monitoring: Implement tools to monitor fleet connectivity system health and communication degradation across the network stack.
- Security Implementation: Design and apply authentication encryption and secure message-passing mechanisms to protect robot-to-cloud data streams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Autonomy Cloud and Operations teams to ensure seamless end-to-end integration across hardware software and supervision systems.
What you must have
- Bachelors or higher degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering or Communications Engineering.
- 5 years of experience in network engineering or robotics connectivity ideally in robotics autonomous vehicles or drones.
- Solid knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP UDP WebRTC gRPC MQTT).
- Hands-on experience with RF engineering antenna design and link budget analysis for mobile systems.
- Strong proficiency with ROS2/DDS and middleware integration for real-time systems.
- Proven ability to design and test secure high-reliability network systems.
- Experience working with Linux-based systems.
Get some bonus points
- Architectures: Familiarity with cloud-to-edge architectures and MEC (Multi-access Edge Computing) deployment.
- Scripting: Scripting in Python or Go for testing and automation.
- Domain Experience: Prior experience in robotics teleoperation or remote supervision systems.
Amazon RIVR is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that values every perspective. If youre passionate about driving innovation in robotics and creating meaningful impact we encourage you to apply and bring your unique self to our team.
We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process such as reviewing applications analyzing resumes or assessing responses. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed please contact us.
