General Information:
JMU Libraries have multiple openings for students to work in the service point desks in Rose Library Carrier Library and the Music Library.

We are especially excited to reopen the Carrier Library in August 2026. To support this reopening we are particularly interested in having at least some student employees be available to begin work starting August 3 and be able to attend in-person on-campus training on August 6 and 7.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Student assistants participate as part of the Libraries team to ensure timely responses to all library users needs using their customer service skills to assist library users by circulating books media and equipment answering questions at the desks over the phone actively participating in ongoing training assisting with special projects and providing other services when needed.
Additional duties may include maintaining equipment shelving and organizing materials and collections scanning data entry and general support for library operations.
Hours per week:
Range from 7 15 and will include evenings and weekends.
The libraries are open 7 days a week; therefore it is important that your hours of availability be included in your application.
Qualifications:
We are looking for candidates who can maintain an excellent attitude throughout user interactions commit to supporting an equitable and welcoming environment for all users communicate with supervisors and coworkers in a timely manner and manage their schedule with regular on-time attendance.
Candidates should exhibit a passion for lifelong learning be a skilled listener and have a strong sense of personal responsibility.
Hired students for Library and Information Services specifically will be required to work shifts in both the Carrier and Rose Libraries.
Those hired for the Music Library will work at the service desk in the Music building.

Students must be degree-seeking students enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
