Job Summary
Job Title: Summer Drivers Education Instructor Driver
Employment Period: June August (Summer Term - 2026)
Location:Lennox High School
Reports To: Building Principal / Activities Director / Transportation Director
Certification Required: South Dakota Department of Education (SD DOE) Drivers Education Certification
Position Summary
The Summer Drivers Education Instructor Driver is responsible for providing high-quality behind-the-wheel instruction to students enrolled in the districts summer driver education program. The instructor ensures students develop safe responsible driving habits in accordance with South Dakota Department of Education standards and state traffic laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide behind-the-wheel driving instruction to students in accordance with SD DOE guidelines.
Instruct and reinforce safe driving techniques defensive driving skills and traffic law compliance.
Supervise students during all driving sessions to ensure safety.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Maintain accurate records of student driving hours progress and assessments.
Evaluate student performance and determine readiness for course completion.
Communicate effectively with students parents/guardians and school administration regarding progress and concerns.
Ensure compliance with district policies and state regulations.
Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned driver education vehicle(s).
Report accidents incidents or vehicle maintenance issues promptly.
Qualifications
Valid South Dakota teaching certificate.
Valid South Dakota Drivers Education Instructor certification through the SD DOE.
Valid South Dakota drivers license with a clean driving record.
Demonstrated knowledge of current traffic laws and defensive driving practices.
Strong classroom management and supervisory skills.
Ability to maintain professional relationships with students parents and staff.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods while supervising student drivers.
Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently.
Ability to respond quickly in emergency driving situations.
Work Conditions
Seasonal summer position (JuneAugust).
Flexible scheduling including daytime and possible evening hours.
Work conducted primarily in district-owned driver education vehicles on public roadways.
Compensation
Compensation will be determined according to district summer school or hourly pay guidelines.
