Summary:

Provides genetic counseling to patients with a medical or family history of pediatric or adult onset genetic diseases and coordinates program services.

Responsibilities:

Develops genetic counseling plans including risk assessment referrals education life planning options and treatment counseling and education to patients and their families. Identifies and provides referrals for testing treatment support and maintains and applies knowledge of trends and developments in genetic disease research testing and reviews and interprets family/medical histories medical records test results and other relevant/necessary information. Coordinates testing and communicates results to referring healthcare provider.

Education and Certification Requirements:

Masters: Genetic Counseling (Required)

Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate Work Experience: One (1) year of experience in pediatric or general genetic counseling rotations and/or internships will be Information: Requires a Certified Genetics Counselor (CGC) certification from the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG) or the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) within 12 months of employment.
