Description

Student Health at the University of Iowa is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Physician Assistant to join our multidisciplinary care team. This role supports the mental health and wellbeing of a broad student population by providing highquality psychiatric evaluation treatment and collaborative care. The is a 70%-100% position that offers a stable weekday schedule Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Specific Job Duties & Tasks

Conduct psychiatric evaluations including patient histories mental status examinations and diagnostic assessments.
Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests procedures and medications.
Provide medication management including routine evaluations counseling on risks/benefits and monitoring treatment response.
Offer clear ageappropriate and culturally sensitive explanations and instructions to patients.
Maintain strict confidentiality in all patient and staff interactions.
Work respectfully and effectively with students from various backgrounds.
Assist with emergent psychiatric issues and provide clinic coverage as needed.
Counsel patients and when appropriate family members or significant others regarding diagnoses prognosis and treatment implications.
Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to gather relevant information and communicate treatment recommendations.
Facilitate referrals to internal and external providers or agencies.
Participate in interdisciplinary teams to plan deliver and evaluate psychiatric care.
Contribute to quality management initiatives aimed at improving clinical procedures and patient outcomes.
Document patient encounters treatment plans and correspondence in the electronic health record.
Develop and maintain medication information materials for patient and clinic use.
Serve as a consultative resource to other departments within the Division of Student Life.
Support patient and family education by developing and evaluating educational resources.
Ensure ongoing clinical competency in psychiatry and adhere to universal precautions.

Education requirement:

Compliance with Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners requirements including graduation from an accredited PA program and NCCPA certification

Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of independence while collaborating effectively with healthcare team members.
Strong interpersonal skills for working with a broad student body staff providers and administrators.
Experience fostering a welcoming and respectful environment.
Interest in and knowledge of college health issues.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in psychiatric clinical practice (highly desirable).
Experience providing psychiatric care in a college or university setting.
Experience using EPIC or another electronic health record system.
