Job Summary

SUMMARY: Removes excess metal from airfoil contour and polishes surface; grinds excess metal from root shelves and other areas of castings; polishes and blends radii; moves product from one area to another; sand blast parts to specific procedures; performs other related duties as determined by their Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Removes excess metal from airfoil contour and polishes surface; obtains and positions part on abrasive surface of belt polisher and manipulates part to remove excess metal and to blend in and polish airfoil contours; buffs castings using portable pedestal or other type cotton headed buffer; blends areas inaccessible to belt with files Emery cloth etc. Per provided Procedures.
  • Grinds excess metal from root shelves and other areas of castings; removes die lines and excess metal from root shelves tip and other areas of castings by using mounted abrasive wheels or steel burrs on high speed hand grinder; grinds and polishes with abrasive belt on small shelf polisher when possible; examines parts visually to verify acceptable surface condition.
  • Polishes and blends radii; obtains and positions part on abrasive wheel of radius polishing machine and manipulates part to remove excess metal and to blend and polish radius surface; examines parts visually to verify acceptable surface condition.
  • Performs other related duties including:

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Position requires high school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least one year manufacturing experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating instructions and procedures. Ability to communicate production information both in writing and verbally.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several airfoil casting variables in standardized situations.

OTHER QUALIFICATION: Regular attendance and the ability to work weekday and weekend overtime.

While performing the duties of this Job the employee is required to sit occasionally walk use hands to finger handle or feel; and talk and/or hear. The employee sits 90% of the workday. The employee must frequently lift parts weighing between 3 ounces to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
