This is semi-skilled parks maintenance work that provides general labouring duties in the maintenance of parks systems facilities buildings and grounds. The work involves physical effort and agility of a repetitive nature. The incumbent exercises some independence of action and judgement in day-to-day functions and refers unusual problems or policy matters to their supervisor. This position operates under the direction of a supervisor who checks work upon completion for quality and adherence to established work standards. Instruction is given through oral and written means.
Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Performs a diverse range of labour related duties including grass cutting raking pruning watering fertilizing edging assists in landscaping tasks including planting of trees flowers and shrubs in general parks trails cemetery sport field facilities and streetscapes
- Performs litter and garbage collection within parks trails sport fields established pedestrian routes bus stops and other areas as assigned
- Performs custodial cleaning and minor maintenance duties in parks buildings. Inspects for vandalism and provides documentation of incidents as well as completes or assist in repairs
- Performs graffiti inspections and removals within parks and other assigned areas. Assists in cemetery interring operations
- Operates a range of park-related light duty equipment and/or fleet vehicles
- Assists tradespersons and other positions related to the work
- As required provides basic work directions to less experienced workers engaged in a variety of parks related activities
- Prepares and maintains routine work records related to the work
The successful candidate for this position will have:
- Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by the completion of a certificate program in horticulture parks maintenance and or Turf Maintenance from a recognized educational institution plus some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Drivers Licence for the Province of British Columbia Class 5
