Police Officer (School Resource Officer) Position Summary The School Police Officer also known as a School Resource Officer (SRO) is a certified law enforcement professional assigned to a school campus to ensure a safe and secure learning environment. The officer builds positive relationships with students staff and parents while enforcing laws preventing crime and serving as a mentor and role model for Responsibilities Law Enforcement & SafetyEnforce federal state and local laws on school to emergencies disturbances and criminal investigations involving students staff or visitors when with school administrators on safety protocols and threat school grounds and surrounding areas to deter criminal activity. Prevention & EducationProvide classroom presentations on topics such as drug prevention bullying cyber safety and conflict and counsel students particularly those at positive behavior and support restorative practices when in safety drills and emergency preparedness planning. Community EngagementBuild positive relationships with students to foster trust and as a liaison between the school and local law enforcement with parents and guardians regarding safety school events and extracurricular activities as needed. Administrative DutiesMaintain accurate reports and documentation of in reviewing and updating school safety with school counselors and administrators on student school diploma or GED required; associates or bachelors degree in criminal justice or related field certification as a law enforcement officer in the state of of 23 years of law enforcement experience working with adolescents strongly communication conflict resolution and interpersonal to work effectively in a school environment and with diverse & CompetenciesKnowledge of juvenile law and adolescent intervention and de-escalation competency and judgment and decision-making under to balance enforcement with EnvironmentAssigned to a junior high school campus during school attendance at after-school events or emergency interaction with adolescents faculty parents and community RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended to respond quickly in emergency meet department physical fitness standards.
