DescriptionIn an environment of continuous quality improvement the Report Writer is responsible for analysis design and support of activities related to the hospitals information systems. A Report Writer has to know the value of the data where it is coming from how to get at or extract it how to clean it how to verify that it is accurate and how to present the information correctly using charts graphs aggregates statistical computations etc. Additionally the candidate is responsible for evaluating functionality of information systems and department workflow processes and identifying and assisting in the resolution of issues. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.
Job Functions:
- Generate reports data files queries sub-queries nested queries and complex SQL statements.
- Optimize and improve performance of scheduled reports and data file generation e.g. trend and exception analysis spreadsheets graphs charts drill downs correlations etc by updating SQL statements and indexing.
- Reconcile discrepancies between the expectations of management requests and information presented in reports and files; Validate and prove to the decision managers that the data presented is valid and accurate.
- Present timely up to date and time sensitive reports or nightly reports that need to run successfully before the day shift starts or reports that are compiled at the end of a quarter or business cycle.
- Develop test scripts policies and procedures.
- Document detailed descriptions of user needs program functions and application specifications.
- Work independently but maintain active and timely communication with hospital management and team members in a fast paced changing environment.
- Communicate effectively with non-technical staff in both verbal and written formats.
- Assist in performing integration and unit/module testing
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
QualificationsMinimum Education/Experience Required:
- Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or related computer field required.
- Minimum of 3 year(s) of systems analysis experience preferably in a health care environment lieu of education a minimum of 7 years of systems analysis experience preferably in a health care environment required.
- Experience in developing complex SQL scripts views and stored procedures required.
- Experience in using an Electronic Health Record preferred.
Special Knowledge Skills Training:
- Demonstrated knowledge in scripting languages (e.g. Visual Basic).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical problem solving and conceptual skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking abilities with problem solving skills.
Compensation Details: Education experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
