Role: IP Core / Transport Project Manager (Wireline Core Network).
Location: Brampton ON (Onsite).
Duration: Long Term Contract.
Role Overview:
- We are seeking an experienced IP Core / Transport Project Manager to support the delivery of core IP and core transport network initiatives within a large Canadian telecommunications environment.
- This role is focused on wireline core infrastructure including IP core routing platforms and optical transport networks which collectively carry wireless wireline media and enterprise traffic at national scale.
- The Project Manager will be responsible for end to end project delivery working across multiple technical and business stakeholders vendors and internal teams.
- The ideal candidate is a strong project manager first with sufficient core network domain knowledge to confidently manage complex IP and transport initiatives and communicate effectively with technical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver end to end project management for core IP and core transport network projects from initiation through close out.
- Manage projects involving large scale IP core routers and optical transport infrastructure (not access or outside plant work).
- Build maintain and actively manage project schedules milestones dependencies and risks.
- Coordinate across a large multi stakeholder environment including engineering operations vendors and program leadership.
Drive execution of recurring initiatives such as:
- Capacity augments (keep the lights on initiatives).
- Network resiliency improvements.
- Lifecycle management and hardware refresh programs.
- Expansion into new territories.
- Ensure projects remain on track despite technical and organizational complexity.
- Track and manage financials forecasts and delivery commitments associated with assigned projects.
- Lead and facilitate technical and project forums demonstrating enough domain knowledge to follow and clarify discussions.
- Work closely with peer Project Managers and leverage established onboarding and buddy processes when joining new initiatives.
Required Experience & Skills:
Project Management:
- Proven experience delivering telecommunications network projects end to end.
Strong fundamentals in:
- Schedule creation and management.
- Dependency tracking.
- Risk and issue management.
- Stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to deliver consistently in a high volume fast paced environment.
- Experience working within large complex organizations with many interdependent teams.
Core Network Domain Experience:
- Candidates must have experience in core network environments preferably wireline. Relevant experience includes:
IP Core:
- Large scale IP routing platforms (e.g. Cisco ASR Juniper MX).
- Core distribution service delivery or management IP network layers.
Transport / Optical:
- DWDM / optical transport networks.
- Backbone or core transport connectivity between major IP nodes.
- Experience with vendors such as Ciena and Nokia.
Important:
- This role does not include access networks outside plant fiber construction GPON microwave or RAN only roles.
- Experience limited to IP RAN access transport or radio access is not sufficient on its own.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Canadian telecommunications experience (strongly preferred to reduce onboarding time).
- Experience working with Tier 1 or Tier 2 telecom operators in Canada.
- Prior exposure to both IP core and optical transport projects.
- Experience working with multiple major network vendors rather than a single technology stack.
- Familiarity with project management tools such as JIRA (helpful but not mandatory).
Education:
- A degree in Engineering Computer Science or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
- Practical relevant experience and delivery capability are valued more than formal education credentials.
