Job Summary

National Weather Center (NWC) Security Officer serves as a non-commissioned (unarmed) uniformed security officer for the National Weather Center as part of the OU Police Department. NWC Security Officer performs foot patrols of the facility and grounds and serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by fulfilling training and reporting obligations related to campus safety protocols.

Performs patrols of the facility and grounds to identify safety and security problems.
Monitors entrance control points and security CCTV cameras.
Responds to disasters fire and emergencies.
Provides care and first aid.
Reportshazardousandsuspicious activities to enable corrective action to be initiated.
Operates public safety communications equipment including but not limited to conventional and cellular telephones two-way portable radios hand-held computers and computer workstations.
Providesinformation serviceandassistanceto the public and/or students staff and faculty.
Communicates and interfaces with university police or other emergency service providers in emergencies and for routine support.
Makesbuilding security inspectionscheckingdoorsandwindows.
Takes statements and preparesreports on information from individuals regardingcrimessafetyviolationsor accidents.
Collects and issues keys and access cards from and to staff.
Monitors incoming and outgoing deliveries and shipments.
Assists with special events activities parking lot and traffic posts.
Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education: HighSchooldiploma or GED.

Required Experience: None

Skills:

Customer service
Ability to speak read and write clear in concise English
Basic computer skills

Certifications:

Valid Oklahoma Drivers License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire date.
Must be able to pass police and US Dept of Commerce background investigation.
Must be a US or naturalized citizen (possess a permanent US residence card).

Advertised Physical Requirements:

Ability to speak clear and concise English.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Ability to walk climb stairs and stand for extended periods of time; see well including color depth perception and clarity.
Must be willing to conform to department appearance standard.
Must be willing and able to work nights weekends and holidays.
Must pass Post Offer Employment Test (POET).
Must be able to lift at least 62 pounds weight from the floor.
Must be able to push a maximum force of 120 pounds.
Must be able to pull a maximum force of 125 pounds.

Departmental Preferences:

Previous security experience
CPR and first aid certifications

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
