Project/Program:
This position is for a Database Administrator - Expert level who provides technical and operational support for NYS agencies with job duties such as installing patching and upgrading SQL Server; providing operational support; implementing backups and recovery; performing resource planning and performance tuning etc.
Day-to-Day Tasks:
1. Install configure administer and manage MS SQL Server Instances and databases for SQL version 2012 and up including high availability and disaster recovery configurations.
2. Assist in Developing and implementing appropriate high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
3. Perform regular backups and ensure recovery solutions are in place and regularly kept updated utilizing approved ITS/MSSQL team approved backup tools.
4. Monitor performances of database servers listeners and other related processes optimize performance of databases review and monitor server resources CPU memory storage network etc.
5. Ensure appropriate security protocols in line with ITS guidelines and known best practices are in place patches are applied on all SQL instances timely.
6. Perform capacity planning and monitor storage utilization and take corrective actions when necessary.
7. Create and maintain documentation for all major installations configurations implementation and troubleshooting.
8. Explore actively support and work on new technology initiatives much beyond the database world that may be of interest to the Organization.
Mandatory Qualification:
Database Administrator -
Uses specialized software to store and organize data which may include capacity planning installation configuration database design migration performance monitoring security and troubleshooting as well as backup and data recovery.
Expert -
84 Months: Candidate is able to provide guidance to large teams and/or has extensive industry experience and is considered at the top of his/her field.
Requested Qualifications:
- 84 months of experience with SQL Server versions 2012 to 2025 installations configurations and troubleshooting.
- 84 months experience working in translating business needs into industry standard SQL solutions.
- 84 months of experience in designing/installing and maintaining High Availability and Disaster Recovery Solutions on Windows Clustered Environment supporting Failover clustered SQL Server instances.
- 84 months of experience in SQL Server Performance Tuning and Optimization.
- 84 months working and supporting Critical Public Safety Applications for Government Agencies hosted on a SQL Server database environment (e.g. Working with Dept of Corrections Division of Criminal Justice or Homeland Security or Police Depts).
- 84 months experience installing configuring and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server SQL Server Reporting Service and PowerBI Server. Experience should include scaled-out deployment.
- 84 months experience installing configuring and troubleshooting SQL Server Integration Services 2012 to 2025 packages and connectivity issues.
- 84 months experience in working with scripting tools like T-SQL or PowerShell.
- 36 months experience with Azure or Azure SQL.
- Bachelors degree in computer science or related fields.
