Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Transmission & Distribution Structural Engineer to support engineering design and analysis activities for utility infrastructure projects. This role focuses on structural and line design modeling foundation design engineering analysis and technical leadership supporting electric utility transmission and distribution systems.
The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams field personnel and engineering leadership to ensure safe compliant and efficient infrastructure design and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural and line design analysis using PLS-CADD PLS-Pole and PLS-Caisson for transmission and distribution systems.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for modeling and engineering analysis related to utility infrastructure.
- Design and review pole foundations including new installations and assessments of existing infrastructure.
- Conduct engineering research data analysis and project development to support strategic decision-making.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) compliance while adhering to company and site safety standards.
- Support construction and field operations by coordinating with field teams addressing design issues and performing field inspections when needed.
- Assist with emergency restoration efforts related to wildfires storms or other system incidents.
- Maintain and update engineering specifications and design standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to support engineering initiatives and project execution.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the transmission engineering practice.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Structural Engineering or related engineering discipline (Masters preferred).
- California Professional Engineer (PE) License Civil required.
- 7 years of engineering experience in electric utility transmission and/or distribution line design.
- Strong knowledge of engineering standards including:
- California GO95
- NESC
- ASCE codes and guidelines
- Proficiency with engineering tools including:
- PLS-CADD
- PLS-Pole
- AutoCAD
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PLS-Caisson.
- Experience with SPIDAcalc.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- Typically requires 5 7 years of professional engineering experience in utility engineering environments.
