Job Summary

This position has a mid-level moderately complex job assignment. Level of responsibility includes general supervision of program participants and volunteers with a considerable amount of discretion and independent judgment. Under supervision this position is responsible for the overall planning coordination and evaluation of the City of Leander Active Adult Program. The employee in this role plans organizes and oversees all programs activities special events and day trips for active adults. This employee is expected to actively participate in program planning development and execution of these activities.


Essential Duties & Required Qualifications

  • Coordinates the daily activities and events of the Active Adult Program at the Leander Senior Activity Center.
  • Recruits and provide leadership to volunteers; schedules and oversee their work assignments.
  • Provides outstanding customer service when assisting the public through various communication methods.
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned budget.
  • Data Analytics: conducts surveys program evaluations analyzes results makes recommendations and implements changes as needed.
  • Confers with and provides professional assistance to City leaders regarding the Leander Senior Activity Center and related matters.
  • Develops and manages all marketing materials and communications to promote awareness and interest in Active Adult Programs including creating scheduling and maintaining content across social media platforms subject to required approvals.
  • Promote programs utilizing outreach engagement and promotions to increase community interest.
  • Represents the City in meetings with business and professional organizations community groups and the public.
  • Complete program-specific reports including financials participation volunteers registrations facility usage and incidents.
  • Responds to emergency situations administer first aid CPR and other medical attention as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge trends and advancements in Active Adult Program planning and implementation.
  • Responds to complaints and requests for information.
  • Serve as staff liaison on various City recreation or community related committees as assigned.
  • Assist with coordination of community services activity programs with other City departments.
  • Must be available for off hours and/or emergency problem response.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree with major course work in recreation administration geriatrics/therapeutic recreation or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • A minimum of two years of related work experience.
OR
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • A minimum of six years of related work experience.
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
  • Valid drivers license from Texas or any other U.S. State.
  • First Aid/Stop the Bleed and CPR/AED Certifications within 60 days of employment.

Preferred Education Certifications and Licenses:
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
  • Class B CDL drivers license (Passenger Endorsement) preferred.
  • Five or more years of related work experience.

  • Community senior citizen needs and social services resources.
  • Rules regulations and ordinances pertaining to senior citizen programs and facilities.
  • Execute goals objectives policies procedures work standards and internal controls.
  • Planning organizing and implementing multi-faceted senior programs and activities.
  • Identifying community senior citizen needs and recommending alternative or enhanced programs.
  • Exercising sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
  • Preparing clear concise and complete reports and other written correspondence.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop kneel talk or hear and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift or move 25 lbs. with regularity.
