About the Role

General MotorsVehicle Viewingteam is building the next generation ofconnected cameraandsurroundview experiencesthat power safety visibility and rich driver insights across our global vehicle portfolio.

We are seeking aSenior Software Engineer (C)to lead the design and development ofhighcomplexity highvisibility viewing this role you will work at the intersection of:

  • Connected camera systems(onvehicle and cloudconnected)

  • Computer vision and image processing(realtime video pipelines)

  • Graphics composition and rendering(multicamera views overlays ARlike UX)

  • Highperformance C includingmultithreadingand lowlatency data paths

You will own significant pieces of production software that runin real vehicles shaping how customers see and interact with their surroundings.

What Youll Do

  • Own thefull software development life cyclefor Cbased viewing and imageprocessing components: requirements design implementation optimization test and deployment.

  • Design and implementrealtime C pipelinesfor:

    • Camera ingestion and buffering

    • Image processing and computer vision algorithms

    • Graphics composition (guidelines overlays stitched views)

  • Develop robustmultithreadedcomponents that move and process highbandwidth video safely and efficiently (synchronization lockfree patterns where applicable).

  • Profile and optimizelatency throughput and memoryfor complex C modules running on constrained automotive platforms.

  • Collaborate closely withsoftware and system architectsvehicle systems engineering andapplication engineersacross global GM teams to integrate viewing features into complete vehicle experiences.

  • Build debug and validate your code on:

    • Target ECUsand development benches

    • Real vehiclesfor onroad and provingground testing

  • Diagnose complex issues acrosscamera drivers middleware viewing services and UI clients; drive rootcause analysis and durable fixes.

  • Contribute tosafetycritical software integration and verification following automotive safety and quality processes.

  • Stay current oncomputer vision graphics C language evolution and tooling and bring new techniques into the Viewing stack.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelors degreein Computer Science Software Engineering Electrical/Computer Engineering or related technical field.

  • 5 yearsof professional experience inC software developmentfor production systems.

  • Strong handson experience withmodern C (C11 or later) including:

    • STL templates RAII smart pointers

    • Clean API design and modular architecture

  • Proven expertise inmultithreaded programming including:

    • Threading models synchronization primitives (mutexes condition variables atomics)

    • Debugging race conditions deadlocks and performance bottlenecks

  • Experience buildingcomplex performancesensitive systemsin C (e.g. streaming realtime embedded or similar domains).

  • Solidcomputer science fundamentals: algorithms data structures complexity memory management.

  • Demonstrated experience owning featuresendtoend: from requirements and design through implementation integration and deployment.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred

Qualifications)

  • Experience withimage processing and/or computer vision(e.g. camera calibration warping/dewarping stitching object detection tracking or similar).

  • Experience withgraphics or rendering pipelines(OpenGL Vulkan composition frameworks or automotive HMI stacks).

  • Background inautomotiveembedded or othersafetycriticalsystems development.

  • Familiarity withLinux or QNXdevelopment environments and crosscompilation for embedded targets.

  • Experience withCI/CD and modern dev toolssuch as Jenkins GitHub static analysis and automated testing frameworks.

  • Ability tolead complex technical investigations align stakeholders and drive issues to closure.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a crossfunctional globally distributed team.

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

  • The salary range for this role is ($153200 - $234100). The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance job level and individual performance.

This job maybe eligible for relocation benefits.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week or other frequency dictated by their manager. The selected candidate will be required to travel <25% for this role. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
