Health Assistant
Responsibilities:
* First Aid/Emergency Care:

* Implement school policies/procedures/standing orders in caring for students who are at school and injured or ill.

* Administer first aid

* Screen students for illness/chronic disease

* Complete accident reports

* Communicate with nurse/Principal/parents

* Maintain adequate supplies/equipment for health care

* Give medication as prescribed

* Record Keeping

* Maintain student health folders/health room records

* Initiate file for new students

* Note/communicate to staff special health needs of student

* Check immunization status of new students

* Transcribe all health data onto proper forms as directed by nurse

* Train and fill in a bus monitor for students with special needs

* Health Programming/Screenings:

* Assist the nurse as directed with the following:

Vision screening
Screening for communicable disease
Hearing screenings
Height/weight screenings
Staff/school health in-service programs
Classroom health programs

* Complete daily/monthly reports of health room activities

* Assist nurse with yearly reports/referral follow-ups

* Facilitate communication between parents/staff regarding health matters/school health policies

* Maintain strict confidentiality of student health records/ communications regarding student health

* Seek/accept direction from nurse/Principal regarding any health matter which is outside general policy/procedures or involves serious injury/illness or liability to school corporation

* Other tasks as assigned by school nurse.

Qualifications:
* High school graduate

* Current CPR/first aid certification

* Good verbal/written communication skills.
