The IDNO Network Engineeris responsible forensuringSpheresnetwork design engineering and technical standardsare withinstrict adherence to theappropriate regulatorylicence obligations and safety legislation for the electricity distribution role will be the key technical Subject Matter Expert(SME) forLV HV and EHVnetwork design across a nationwide portfolio of new distribution network assets.
As the SME this role willact as adecision maker onengineeringmatters (engineeringassurance sign off)within the Sphere teamprovidingkey guidance to the Sphere Leadership team.
They willoperateas the main technical interface with several Independent Connection Provider (ICP) Contractors managingtheirperformancequalityand technical competencyinthe design of newIndependentDistributionNetworks(IDNOs).They will also act as the main liaison withthe widerDistribution Network Operator(DNO)community andisresponsible forworking level industry engagement including with bodies such as the Energy Networks Association (ENA).
As the SphereIDNOgrowsthe Network Engineer willberesponsible forthe management of customer requests to connectalteror extend the Sphere network.
Whatyoullbe doing
Leadonengineering designtofacilitateconstruction of newIDNOassets through relationships with ICP contractors including havingtheaccountability forestablishingand evolving strategy and processes to ensure a consistent approach to design health and safety management landrightsand project delivery.
Ensureengineering deliverables are successfully achieved or accelerated tofacilitatetheexpected growth of the Sphere IDNO business in terms of asset base and expected revenue.
Act as thetechnicalSMEfor Sphere and decision maker on technical matters; enablingstreamlined decisionsand being a key interface forICPs duringproject construction.
Managedifferent sizedICPcontractorsensuring astandardiseddesignapproach across entire portfolioof sites to be adopted by Sphere.
Capable ofproposingnew and advanced engineering solutionswith ICPsto enable accelerateddelivery of projects.
Ensure that Sphere Design Philosophy & Principles and policies areadhered to by ICPs.
Participate and direct cross-discipline transfer ofexpertisewith fellow Sphere colleagues acting as a key link for interactivity with other departments and enable holistic technical decisions.
Leadengineering governance assurance and approval for design submissions made by ICPs with thorough attention to detail in the development of new network assets for Sphere adoption. Including holding delegated authorisation responsibility.
Provideengineering oversight and troubleshooting for complex engineering problems both in construction of new assetsandfor theconnectedassetsof Sphereonce constructed.
Represent Spheresengineering position and interests at senior industry regulatory and public consultations where.
Responsible for setting andmaintainingcompany-wide professional engineering working standardspracticesand pace of delivery acting as an engineering role-model setting aspirationaltargetsand encouraging technical rigour.
Whatyoullbring
Engineering qualification (BSc/BEng) or relevant experience with postgraduate qualification preferred (MBA Meng MSc)
Proven experience of distribution network design andconstructionplanning with expert knowledge of design standards up to 33kV.
Good commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer service and efficient network design whilst ensuring maximum return on investment.
Technical and operational experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility of working withthe National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS)preferred.
Excellent leadership communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse and demanding workload whilst under pressure.
Direct orindirect line management and leadership experience.
Capability to manage and influence challenging discussions / situations with internal and external relationships.
IT literate with the ability tooperateMS Office systems electrical analysissoftwareand customer relationship management systems.
