Overview
Our client a Fortune 200 energy and utilities company is seeking a highly experienced Senior Nuclear Engineer to provide technical expertise and leadership in support of nuclear plant operations. This Capital Projects Electrical Engineer position is located at our Jupiter West Corporate office and requires 15 years of nuclear engineering experience. The role involves performing advanced engineering tasks leading large-scale capital projects and serving as a technical consultant with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership: Provide technical leadership for large-scale nuclear capital projects coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and serve as the primary technical interface with external engineering firms on project development.
- Advanced Engineering: Perform advanced engineering tasks and special projects requiring original concepts and high-level expertise with a focus on power systems engineering.
- Design & Documentation: Prepare review and verify design output documentsincluding design changes calculations specifications and procurement specificationsfor internally developed design changes ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
- Technical Analysis: Prepare stand-alone electrical calculations and conduct power systems analysis (including load flow short circuit analysis arc flash and coordination studies) using computational tools.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all designs and modifications adhere to nuclear industry standards and regulations including 10CFR50.59 ASME codes seismic qualification and NSCA/safe shutdown analysis (Appendix R/NFPA 805).
- Problem Solving: Facilitate team problem-solving activities including conflict resolution and resolve high-stakes technical challenges with minimal precedence.
- Supervisory Support: Provide backup support for supervision as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Professional Engineer license is preferred and may substitute for the degree requirement).
- Experience: Minimum 15 years of nuclear engineering experience in US nuclear power plants.
- Nuclear-Specific Experience: At least 12 years of collective experience must be specifically in US nuclear facilities (international experience and experience in other industries such as fossil power plants oil/gas or transmission/distribution are excluded from this requirement).
- Technical Expertise:
- Extensive knowledge of nuclear industry standards the nuclear design process and independent design verification.
- Proficiency with electrical power systems components including: molded case circuit breakers motor starters thermal overloads low/medium voltage switchgear industrial battery chargers inverters/UPS 125Vdc battery systems Emergency Diesel Generators (EDGs) transformers main generators and voltage regulators.
- Strong background in power systems engineering (this role is not focused on Instrumentation and Control sensors analog/digital electronics or cyber security).
- Core Competencies: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; strong leadership and project management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Regulatory Analysis: Experience with ladder logic electrical schematics NSCA/safe shutdown analysis (Appendix R/NFPA 805).
- Advanced Software Proficiency: Proficiency with power systems analysis computational tools such as ETAP and EDISON.
- Project Experience:
- Background as a cognizant/oversight engineer or in engineering project management.
- Candidates should have more design/project engineering experience than pure project management experience.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with ASME standards seismic qualification and regulatory compliance.
- Plant-Specific Knowledge: Experience with NextEra Energy or Florida Power & Light nuclear power plants (Seabrook Point Beach St. Lucie Turkey Point) is highly preferred.
