Our internshipprogram is designed for students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as well as individualsseekingto deepen their education through immersive professional experiencein the entertainment industry.

This is an opportunity for a law student to learn practical legal and business aspects of the film and television music industry as part of the Music Affairs Group of SPE. The intern will participate in analysis of music issues affecting film and television productions including those arising out of changes in music industry practices copyright laws and labor laws. The intern will also be involved in the research negotiation and drafting of music rights agreements both licenses for existing music and contracts for new music for in-house film and television productions and acquisitions.

Responsibilities:

The intern will carry out the following functions:

  • Review of music agreements music licenses music status reports music cue sheets correspondence credits acquisition agreements and distribution agreements
  • Identification and legal analysis of music issues in agreements and licenses
  • Assisting in negotiations for the acquisition of music rights
  • Research and analysis of current legal and business trends affecting music rights and exploitation in the film and television industries
  • Music rights research
  • Review and entry of referential data general contract and license information and legal analyses into the Music Affairs Groups MAGIC database
  • Present results of research as required

Qualifications:

  • Completed two years of law school
  • Taken copyright or an entertainment law course
  • Have a basic knowledge of music copyright principles
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)
  • Maintain a 3.0 or better grade point average at an ABA-accredited law school

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to identify and assess potential legal issues in connection with music use and exploitation
  • Basic knowledge of film and television music including sound recording and music publishing rights synchronization and performance rights

The anticipated base salary for this position is $25/hour. This role may also qualify for comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors including without limitation the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position years of relevant experience level of education attained certifications or other professional licenses held and if applicable the location of the position.
