We are embarking on an exciting transformation of HKEXs data landscape streamlining how data is managed accessed and used across the organization. Our goal is to empower HKEXs staff and clients with smarter faster data driven insights that elevate efficiency and strengthen business performance. To help drive this mission forward we are seeking an experienced engineering lead to join our Data Platform Engineering team.
As the lead of application engineering you will act as the foremost technical expert in the Data Engineering Team under Chief Data Office serving as the primary source of deep technical knowledge and guidance. You will drive the application development strategy for the team leading a subgroup focused on building and maintaining robust web portals integrations and visualization tools. Leveraging your expertise in React Python and Docker based environments you will ensure the delivery of high quality containerized applications that power our big data ecosystem. This role requires a strong balance of hands on development technical leadership and mentorship.

Job Duties:

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design development and deployment of our big data platform web portal using React for user interfaces and Python for backend logic ensuring end-to-end functionality.
Manage Docker environments for containerization orchestration and deployment of applications optimizing for performance security and scalability in a private cloud setup.
Oversee integrations and datafeed ingestion across all upstream sources including Huawei CDM SharePoint portal APIs and other enterprise systems ensuring seamless data handling for big data workflows Tableau visualizations and Open Metadata implementations for comprehensive lineage tracking.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of developers fostering best practices in full-stack development and agile methodologies.
Collaborate with data ingestion and SRE teams to ensure compatibility with broader data pipelines and infrastructure without direct involvement in data engineering tasks.
Conduct code reviews troubleshoot issues and implement CI/CD pipelines to streamline development workflows and continually improve team efficiency.
Stay current with emerging technologies in fullstack development containerization and data visualization including advancements in big data streaming frameworks AIdriven development capabilities and modern visualization tools to drive continuous improvement across the data engineering stack. Lead the team in exploring and executing innovative initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in computer science software engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
8 years of professional experience in full-stack development with proven expertise in React (frontend) and Python (backend).
Proven experience integrating RESTful APIs and working with backend systems including handson exposure to microservices architecture API gateways and API documentation standards such as Swagger/OpenAPI.
Strong hands-on experience managing Docker environments including container orchestration (e.g. Docker Compose Kubernetes basics).
Familiarity with web portal development frameworks API integrations (e.g. SharePoint for big data) data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau) and metadata management (e.g. Open Metadata).
Demonstrated leadership as an SME in application development with experience guiding small teams or projects.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to handle complex front-to-back application architectures.
Strong communication skills to collaborate across teams and articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

Experience in big data environments or integrations with tools like Hadoop Spark Trino etc.
Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (private or hybrid) and SRE principles along with experience working with major cloud platforms such as AWS Azure or Huawei HCS.
Familiarity with agile/Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira or Git.
Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar libraries.
Familiarity with SSO and authentication flows e.g. Keycloak OAuth OIDC
