Role Definition

The role of this position is to contribute to the design development and manufacturing of world class rail products and services vital to our customers needs through the application of specialized knowledge skills and abilities. Work involves independent judgement decision making and creativity. Management is available to provide additional guidance for unusual situations.

Responsibilities

Perform locomotive crash simulations (DYNA3D) and vehicle dynamic analyses (Vampire) per FRA AAR EN AS/RISSB UIC for locomotives. This role will support North American and international market segments.

A senior-level engineer will provide technical leadership and guidance to project engineers across multiple locomotive programs. This includes advising on component design and ensuring that locomotive structures comply with crashworthiness and vehicle dynamics standards. The role requires simultaneously supporting several projects while delivering expert engineering direction reviewing designs and ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and best practices.

Applicants must be capable of providing technical analysis reports and presentations based on customer requirements.

Guide the design of the product to minimize cost and schedule.

Conduct field testing for demonstration of contract requirements and for certification purposes.

Organize meetings with customers vendors and certifying agencies make presentations and negotiate technical issues.

Organizing many tasks into a timeline. Holding required meetings with project team to ensure specification compliance and project execution in accordance with time and budget restrictions.

Domestic and international travel as required. This travel should not exceed 10% of employees time.

Qualifications and Experience

Required:

MS Engineering (Mechanical Aerospace or equivalent)

Demonstrated experience in vehicle dynamics simulation tools (Vampire Adams Rail Simpack NuCars)

Crash simulation experience for vehicle level simulations

Preferred:

Experience in Crash Testing of Automotive / Highway Vehicles

Matches testing methodology and tools to product being tested; develops test scenarios and scripts.
Estimates time effort and resources required for thorough testing.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches tools and techniques; ability to anticipate detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing or product development environment.
Level Working Knowledge:
Documents common hardware software and communications problems and likely resolutions.
Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.
Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides tools and utilities to discover application problems.
Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.
Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.
