Experience
- Minimum of 2 years previous experience in clinical laboratory required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in medical technology chemical biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution
- Three years of experience in a clinical laboratory
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
Education
- An associate degree in a chemical or biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution is required; or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489 is required.
Certification Summary
- American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist and Georgia Department of Human Resources medical technologist classification
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Independent judgment and responsibility with minimum technical supervision
- Strong organizational capabilities and good communication skills
- Exhibits enthusiasm and willingness to work with others.
- Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs complex laboratory procedures independently recognizes deviation from expected results and analyzes and corrects problems using critical thinking skills.
- Maintains professional skills and technical competency to do assigned tasks.
- Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
- Operates instruments without assistance using established protocols and quality control checks.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments.
- Maintains records and analyzes quality control data to make judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
- Performs administrative tasks and ensures services are delivered in a fiscally responsible manner through management of staff workflow supply inventory and bill reconciliation.
- Ensures proper billing of all laboratory testing and specimen handling.
- Maintains knowledge of appropriate specimen handling based on insurance coverage requirement.
- Executes phlebotomy duties on ages 0 to 21 years including N Neonate (less than 30 days) I Infant (30 days to 1 year) EC Early Childhood (1-5 years) LC Late Childhood (5-13 years) A Adolescent (13-17 years) and AD 18-21.
- Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
- Performs duties makes decisions takes actions and continually strives to improve work processes using an awareness of how the work performed is valued by the customer.
