DescriptionThe Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for supporting the daily operational integrity of campus parking and transportation systems. This position patrols university property to ensure compliance with parking regulations promotes safety provides frontline customer service and supports traffic and event operations. The role requires sound judgment professionalism technical proficiency and a strong commitment to public service.
Responsibilities- Patrol campus parking lots garages and roadways to ensure compliance with university parking regulations.
- Make independent decisions regarding issuance of citations vehicle relocations and impoundments in accordance with departmental policies.
- Record and report roadway hazards facility deficiencies and suspicious activity within parking facilities.
- Conduct and document parking vacancy counts to support utilization analysis and operational planning.
- Evaluate the condition of parking decks and surface lots; report maintenance and safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Provide in-field customer service responding to questions and resolving concerns professionally and effectively.
- Operate and maintain department-issued technology including two-way radios mobile phones handheld citation devices license plate recognition (LPR) systems and related parking management software.
- Accurately input retrieve and manage data within parking management systems to ensure enforcement accuracy and record integrity.
- Safeguard assigned equipment and report malfunctions or technical issues promptly.
- Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic during campus events to ensure safety and efficient flow.
- Support parking logistics and operational execution for athletic events commencement and other large-scale campus activities.
- Serve as a professional ambassador of Parking & Transportation Services when interacting with students faculty staff visitors and the general public.
- Operate state-owned vehicles safely and responsibly in compliance with university state and federal regulations.
- Conduct routine inspections of assigned vehicles and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Ensure proper use and care of vehicles during patrol enforcement and event assignments.
- Complete required documentation reports and official forms accurately and in a timely manner to meet records retention standards.
- Maintain clear and professional oral and written communication in all interactions.
- Document enforcement actions incident reports and operational observations with sufficient detail to support administrative review and potential appeals processes.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma
- Experience: Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Experience and knowledge of computers and software. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge Skills Abilities:
- Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to independently handle a situation with an irate customer without escalating the conflict.
- Excellent communications skills and customer service experience are essential.
- The ability to work overtime for events that mainly occur after hours for normal shift.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Associates Degree
- Experience: Experience with campus parking environment. Conflict resolution experience. Ability to work independently and make decisions based on The University of Tennessee Traffic and Parking Regulations.
- Knowledge Skills Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of campus layout.
- Familiarity of parking policies and general working knowledge of mechanical equipment and tools is also helpful.
