Position Overview


We are seeking a skilled Optical Engineer to support the design analysis and testing of advanced optical systems. This role focuses on optical modeling interferometric testing and metrology development for high-precision optical components and systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Zemax optical design software strong programming capabilities and the ability to translate optical specifications into practical measurement and testing solutions.

This position works closely with engineering teams and customers to develop computer-generated hologram (CGH) designs perform optical analysis and deliver technical documentation and reporting for complex optical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced optical modeling and simulation using Zemax including the development of custom macros and linked extensions for design automation and analysis.

  • Design and execute interferometric optical testing including building test setups performing measurements and analyzing measurement data.

  • Interpret and analyze optical drawings specifications and tolerances translating them into effective metrology strategies error budgets and measurement uncertainty models.

  • Develop and maintain custom CGH (Computer Generated Hologram) designs for optical testing applications.

  • Produce detailed technical reports analysis documentation and customer-facing engineering documentation for optical system performance and testing results.

  • Support the development of optical metrology solutions for high-precision components and optical assemblies.

  • Program and automate data analysis and modeling workflows using MATLAB Python C or Java.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on optical system design testing and validation.

  • Support customer demonstrations product demonstrations and technical presentations during occasional customer site visits and industry trade shows.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Optical Engineering Optical Sciences Physics or a related engineering field with 5 years of practical experience or a Masters degree with 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong experience with optical design and analysis using Zemax or comparable optical modeling tools.

  • Experience performing interferometric testing and optical measurement techniques.

  • Proficiency with at least one scientific or engineering programming language such as MATLAB Python C or Java for analysis simulation or automation.

  • Ability to interpret optical drawings tolerancing and system specifications and translate them into practical measurement and validation procedures.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with optical system alignment and setup.

  • Experience using precision metrology equipment such as interferometers coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and laser trackers.

  • Understanding of optical surface specifications geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and kinematic constraints in precision optical assemblies.

  • Experience developing test methodologies for high-precision optical systems.
