  • Technical responsibility and management

Responsible for interpreting and implementing regulations standards and contractual documents governing NDT methods; bearing technical responsibility for NDT facilities and personnel; selecting appropriate inspection methods and techniques; preparing and approving inspection procedures and work instructions. Ensures that nondestructive testing methods comply with current quality standards and airworthiness requirements.

  • Training and examination management

Develops and approves training syllabi; appoints and manages chief examiners and instructors; organizes and manages qualification examinations (including general specific and practical examinations); ensures that examination content and processes comply with applicable standards.

  • Personnel certification and supervision

Responsible for the qualification evaluation and certification of NDT personnel; supervises personnel training experience and practical operating competence to ensure they are capable of performing their respective duties. Provides guidance and supervision for work carried out by limited Level 1 Level 1 and Level 2 personnel ensuring their operations comply with relevant specifications.

  • Standards compliance and auditing

Ensures that the organizations NDT work complies with civil aviation standards (such as EN 4179 NAS 410 etc.). Conducts internal audits of the NDT process checking whether process procedures equipment calibration and inspection results meet requirements; when necessary performs audits of external suppliers or external agents. Ensures that relevant NDT technical standards and working manuals are current and valid.

  • Technical guidance and support

Provides technical guidance and consulting to NDT personnel resolves technical issues encountered during inspections interprets and evaluates product acceptance or rejection decisions and records the results. Promotes the application and development of NDT technologies and participates in the assessment and introduction of new technologies and methods. Performs calibration of relevant NDT equipment and carries out inspections as needed.

Requirements for Level 3 responsible personnel:

  • College degree or above in good health
  • Familiar with several main NDT methods; understands general standards used in nondestructive testing including determining applicable acceptance criteria for products; familiar with the structure and content of NDT procedures and subordinate documents
  • At least 5 years of experience as Level 3 responsible personnel for aircraft component NDT; must hold a Level 3 certificate for at least one NDT method within the authorized scope of work; must have obtained at least one EN 4179 Level 3 certificate from an organization operating under the control of the European NDT Board.
