Mechanical Planner – Rotary Equipment

Location: Qatar

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Planner (Rotary Equipment) to support maintenance planning and execution for rotating equipment in a petrochemical/oil & gas environment. The role involves preparing maintenance plans coordinating shutdown activities managing spare parts planning and ensuring reliable plant operation in accordance with HSE and maintenance standards.

The candidate will work closely with engineers maintenance teams contractors and other disciplines to optimize plant downtime and ensure effective implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years of field experience in maintenance of mechanical rotating equipment and maintenance planning activities.

  • At least 3 years of maintenance planning experience in Petrochemical Oil & Gas or similar industrial environments.

  • Knowledge of international mechanical codes standards and materials.

  • Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance principles.

  • Ability to use maintenance tools instruments and planning software.

  • Experience with CMMS systems and SAP.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Planning & Scheduling

  • Prepare work orders job plans and planning cards for preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical rotating equipment.

  • Plan and coordinate weekly maintenance activities and shutdown schedules with engineers and operations teams.

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans aligned with plant maintenance strategies and HSE standards.

  • Plan major overhauls shutdowns and turnaround activities in coordination with production and maintenance teams.

Spare Parts & Inventory Management

  • Identify and recommend spare parts based on OEM specifications.

  • Prepare spare part specifications for non-stock procurement and inventory management.

  • Support creation of equipment and spare part data in SAP/CMMS systems.

Coordination & Technical Support

  • Work closely with engineers planners contractors and vendors to ensure effective maintenance planning.

  • Prepare scope of work documents for contractor tenders related to mechanical rotating services.

  • Participate in technical evaluations of contractor bids and conduct technical discussions with vendors.

Work Order & Maintenance Data Management

  • Verify maintenance notifications and work orders in SAP/CMMS and ensure jobs are scheduled according to priority and resource availability.

  • Maintain and update maintenance history and equipment records.

  • Ensure accurate posting of maintenance planning data in SAP systems.

Site Monitoring & Execution Support

  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor maintenance work progress.

  • Ensure work execution follows approved schedules and safety standards.

  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure project performance meets agreed parameters.

Turnaround & Project Planning

  • Coordinate with turnaround teams to monitor TA progress and critical job scheduling.

  • Define milestones major activities and resource requirements using appropriate planning software.

  • Prepare manpower forecasts and downtime optimization plans with other discipline planners.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE) policies.

  • Collaborate with HSE and Quality departments on process safety and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Follow all safety rules procedures and operational standards during planning and execution.

  • Effective time management and multitasking skills.

  • Knowledge of inventory management and spare parts planning.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings technical manuals and maintenance procedures.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills especially when dealing with contractors and vendors.

  • Positive attitude with a proactive and professional work approach.

Language & Technical Skills

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

  • Ability to prepare technical reports maintenance documentation and correspondence.

  • Proficiency in MS Office MS Project SAP and CMMS applications.
