Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Crawley full-time (4 days/ week) onsite

Our Opportunity

Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager the Manufacturing Engineer will contribute to defining new products (MRL) processes and standards driving industrialisation and continuous improvement with lasting impact on production outcomes across multiple products. You will also update and refine methods tools and techniques across industrial domains under guidance.

Industrial Process Engineering are responsible for the introduction of new products from the Bid Phase through the Design Phase and into the Production Phase then supporting ongoing production. Key to this is ensuring reliability and competitiveness of the technological solutions to ensure that the design can be economically produced following the principles of Design for Manufacture and Design to Cost within the constraints of the Industrial capabilities and wider supply chain.

Applicants can include experienced cost engineers looking to move into an Industrial Process Engineer role as a next step within their career. This is an ideal first role for engineering graduates to apply and expand knowledge in industrialisation and methods.

KeyResponsibilitiesandTasks

  • Support late-stage industrialization (MRL 6-8) including MRL assessments PRRs product introduction and prototype phases

  • Lead Industrial Process Engineering for existing products optimizing production processes tooling BOMs routings ERP/MES setups and manufacturing documentation

  • Drive continuous improvement cost reduction productivity and innovation using VSM InCIght TPM and 5S methodologies

  • Ensure compliance with health safety environmental and quality standards (ISO IPC PFMEA risk analysis) manage non-conformance FAI and KPI reporting

  • Influence and guide the Industrial Engineering team promote best practices provide technical support and training and prepare for future developments aligned with strategic plans

  • Manage maintenance and metrology operations analyse failures guarantee equipment availability and propose improvements

  • Oversee cost estimation balancing manufacturing purchasing and partner inputs; produce digressivity curves and portfolio analyses

  • Plan and coordinate technology transfers between sites or suppliers considering technical financial scheduling and purchasing constraints

Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a UK National and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. It would be advantageous if currently held however if not currently held it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo achieve and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. If approved by the MOD a dual national from a non-ITAR country may be considered.
