We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School team. St. Francis School provides a faith-based Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Taan Kwächän Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse Yukon. SFACS is a 8-12 school of approximately 460 students serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. We assist students in developing a relationship with Jesus and appreciation of self and others. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This 0.857 FTE temporary position is a teaching position: Senior Science Math and Skills Support.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience

• Bachelor of Education

• Bachelor of Science or Equivalent

• Recent experience teaching mathematics and science at the secondary and/or intermediate level

• Recent experience teaching in a faith-based school

• Experience with Outdoor Education

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications skills and knowledge but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

• Strong planning and organizational skills especially with integration of science and mathematics in the same course;
• Ability to plan organize and manage secondary students in general classroom settings;
  

• Ability to assess students learning and report progress to parents/guardians using Assessment for Learning and Outcome-based grading principles based on a competency-based curricular framework.
• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a range of learning styles and abilities;
• Ability to teach students from a variety of backgrounds who are English Language Learners;
• Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills working with parents staff members consultants and community agencies;
• Willingness and ability to participate in the total school program including religious education and social justice initiatives;
• Willingness to support the school mission statement and participate in all religious activities;
• An appreciation of the cultural diversity of the Yukon with the ability to incorporate and promote this diversity within the faith life of the school community;
• Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
