F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic athletic performance outdoor/experiential trades and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming cultural diversity and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

Located in the capital city of Whitehorse Yukon F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Taan Kwächän Council. Our school continuously works to honour First Nations ways of knowing doing and being and we value our deep connections with families and the broader community.

Assignment - LAT - French Immersion

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent
  • Post Graduate coursework in Special Education
  • Fully fluent in English & French.
  • Experience within the last three years teaching groups of disengaged youth who have fallen behind on their graduation pathway
  • Demonstrated experience providing leadership case management and instruction as part of a multi-disciplinary school-based team regarding programing for students with diverse learning needs and behavioural challenges
  • Experience developing implementing and revising Individual Education Plans Student Learning Plans Behaviour Support Plans and Safety Plans to maximize student potential
  • Experience using First Nations ways of Knowing Doing and Being to support and instruct students academically socially and behaviourally

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Training and/or experience in trauma responsive educational practices would be an asset.
  • Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behaviour
  • A keen interest and ability to contribute to overall school culture environment and goals;
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills working with students parents staff members and school leadership;
  • Experience within the last three years identifying and implementing targeted strength-based literacy and numeracy interventions in a secondary school setting
  • Experience teaching in a large high school environment (500) an asset
  • Experience with rural/remote populations
  • Experience with transition planning and supporting students with exceptional needs

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
