JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Data Architect to lead a critical 3-month engagement to modernize our data infrastructure. You will be responsible for assessing our current data landscape and designing a target-state AI-ready architecture. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in modern data platforms and strong stakeholder management skills to ensure our data foundation can seamlessly support future BI and ML initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate our current data architecture platforms and data flows to identify gaps and opportunities.
- Lead discovery interviews and collaborate closely with data owners and custodians across multiple departments including Engineering Public Safety Data Analytics Operations and Technology teams.
- Design a scalable target-state data architecture (evaluating cloud hybrid or on-prem options) tailored for AI ML and BI readiness.
- Define comprehensive data models robust integration/ETL patterns and foundational governance frameworks.
- Recommend specific tools technologies and industry best practices to support the target-state design.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven track record working as a Technology or Data Architect with specific hands-on expertise in ETL.
- Technical Stack: Deep expertise in modern data platforms including cloud environments data lakes and data warehouses.
- Governance & Security: Strong understanding of data governance security protocols and compliance standards.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication interviewing and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to translate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
- Bonus: Relevant industry certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Data Analytics Azure Data Engineer Snowflake) and a portfolio of relevant case studies.
Expected Deliverables & Milestones:
You will be expected to deliver the following by the end of the engagement (July 1 2026):
- Architecture Diagrams: Comprehensive current-state and target-state AI-ready (BI/ML) architecture diagrams.
- Standards Documentation: Clearly defined data architecture standards and design principles.
- Tech Recommendations: A formalized report detailing technology and tooling recommendations.
- Implementation Roadmap: A step-by-step implementation roadmap complete with project milestones.
- Final Report & Hand off: Final architecture documentation and a structured knowledge-transfer session with internal teams.
