Part-Time Software Developer Penn State University Libraries Strategic Technologies

The Penn State University Libraries Strategic Technologies department isseekingapart-timeSoftware Developerto support thelibrariessoftware development program. This positionprovidesan opportunity to contribute to web applications and digital services that support discovery access and preservation for a major research library.Telework or hybridoptionavailable

The successful candidate will work with thelibrariessoftware development team to build and enhance applications used by researchers students and staff across the University. This role is well suited for a developer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and contributing to mission-driven software projects.

Responsibilities-

As part of the Libraries Strategic Technologies development team you will:

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle including planning coding testing code review and deployment.
  • Support ongoing development of discovery systems repositories and research infrastructure.
  • Write andmaintainautomated tests and documentation.

Required Qualifications-

  • Bachelors degree in computer science Information Sciences and Technology ora related field.
  • Experience developing web applications and contributing to existing codebases.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with version control systems such as Git.
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and communicate effectively within a technical team.

Preferred Qualifications-

  • Experience withRuby on Rails.
  • Experience with front-end development includingJavaScript HTML and CSS.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and web services.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools or CI/CD workflows.
  • Awareness of web accessibility guidelines and standards.
  • Experience working in anacademic research or library technology environment.
  • Familiarity withmaintainingor enhancing established software platforms or services.

Appointment Details

  • Part-time temporary appointment
  • Approximately1020 hours per week
  • Flexible schedule; telework or hybrid options available

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to impactful software projects that support research teaching and learning across Penn State.
