General Description:
The employee serves as a teacher leader in specialized instruction for students with disabilities. The instructional coach facilitates professional development related to the school and districts instruction and curriculum goals aligned with demonstrated instructional/professional needs. As a leader and specialist the coach works under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Services and supports teachers and support staff in identifying developing and implementing curriculum assessment and instructional strategies designed to improve the learning of students with disabilities. As an instructional coach the employee may work in a variety of elementary secondary individual or team teaching settings.
Essential Functions:
As a teacher leader the instructional coach collaborates with Director of Pupil Services to develop and facilitate professional learning opportunities that promote achievement for all students. The instructional coach designs professional development for administrators teachers and support staff in areas including instruction assessment classroom management and working with students with challenging behavior.
The instructional coach collaborates with and coaches assigned classroom teachers in planning for specific student learning outcomes based on assessed needs of individual students and the use of data to
determine each students current knowledge and skill level support student learning goals and assess student progress. The assessment of student needs includes the use of district approved assessment tools
and strategies in addition to the teachers own professional practice.
The instructional coach may as needed conduct classroom instruction either for direct learning by students or for demonstrating effective intervention and teaching practices for specialists and support staff.
The instructional coach assists teachers and support staff in using research-basedinstructional strategies and content specific differentiated instruction including assisting teachers in planning delivering and assessing lessons. This might include providing consultation to school staff working with students with disabilities in the following areas: instruction assessment curriculum communication behavior organization use of visual systems self-management sensory needs social skills and the design of the physical environment in the classroom.
The instructional coach provides leadership in assessing the data and communicating the results to school team members.
The instructional coach integrates district approved and/or required technology into planning learning progress reporting and required record-keeping activities.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve as District Testing Coordinator
2. Share attendance of ETR/IEP meetings as District Representative with the Director of Pupil Services.
3. Conduct compliance checks of ETR/IEP assigned prior to meetings.
4. Follow up with ETR/IEP feedback after meetings as needed and communicate with Director of Pupil Services.
5. Collaborate with Director of Pupil Services to create Professional Development.
6. Conduct in depth reviews of at least 1 IEP and ETR for each intervention specials with face to face feedback.
7. Assists with communication and updates of district policies and procedures.
8. Assist with quarterly newsletters to families staff and update websites.
9. The instructional coach will co-lead special education department meetings serving as advisor resource specialist and facilitator in faculty grade level department and/or professional learning community meetings.
10. Conduct other duties as assigned by the Director of Pupil Services.
