The University of Hawaii (UH) Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) invites qualified dynamic and dedicated individual to apply for a non-tenure track full-time 11-month faculty position at the rank of Clinical Instructor (H2) under the UH Translational Health Science Simulation Center (THSSC/Center) a clinical simulation-based educational program of the University of Hawaii. The UH THSSC brings real-life scenarios to the classroom so that students can gain the experience confidence and skills they need to provide quality care. The Center integrates state-of-the-art equipment electronic patient records and practices currently used by the states leading medical centers. ClickHEREfor a virtual/video tour of the THSSC and see our simulation techs and students in action for an elevated experience in this state-of-the-art healthcare technology.

The position is expected to begin approximately April 2026 or as mutually acceptable.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manages the operations of the THSSC by coordinating the day-to-day lab activities overseeing its technical operations and supporting educational objectives via the development implementation and assessment of simulation-based education among others.

  • With the guidance of the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA) participates in the curriculum development and creation of competency-based assessments for the nursing program; provides clinical simulation instruction of nursing and other health science faculty and students in health simulation.

  • Develops a progressive and thoughtful academic assessment following best practices appropriate for the learning outcomes among others in consultation with the ADAA.

  • Participates and engages in public events community outreach and professional associations and collaborates with the appropriate SONDH offices in developing new markets for simulation use and the use of various web platforms in promoting the Center.

  • Serves on Department School and University committees as appropriate.

  • Collaborates with the appropriate SONDH offices in the management of the Centers finances such as managing the budget and expenditures and developing grant funding opportunities.

  • Supervises Center team members by optimizing workflow supporting staff development evaluating employee performance and recommending personnel actions among others.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Terminal clinical degree (Doctor of Nursing Practice) or masters degree from an accredited college or university of recognized standing.
  2. Current (or be eligible for) unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in Hawaii (must have Hawaii license by the appointment date);
  3. Must have with appropriate clinical board certification or qualification in the clinical discipline of the specific position which can include certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CHSE).
  4. Minimum of one (1) year of full-time work experience in healthcare simulation lab management coordinating its daily operations.
  5. Demonstrated ability in the use of simulation technology for healthcare education.
  6. Demonstrated ability in teaching and patient care.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of and acquaintance with assessment of student learning outcomes the requirements of governmental and accrediting agencies and specific and effective assessment practices.
  8. Demonstrated competency in interprofessional team work and team science.
  9. Demonstrated professionalism and ability to meet and confer with others.

Desirable Qualification:
  • Record of progressive responsibility in a healthcare setting(s).
  • Certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CHSE) - Advanced
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practice.
