Job Summary

TheDepartment of Economics at Dartmouth College invites applications for a Postbaccalaureate Fellow (PBF) at the rank of postgraduate research associate in the area(s) of applied position has a particular emphasis on public economics labor economics and American economic faculty supervisors for this position are Professors Elizabeth Cascio Daniel Fetter and Claudia Olivetti.

Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning managing and carrying out preliminary analysis of data using Stata
  • Assisting in the implementation of record linkage methods including data preprocessing match scoring and quality evaluation
  • Managing digitization of historical records contained in previously scanned PDFs.
  • Documenting data construction and assisting in the production of replication archives for journals and data repositories
  • Contributing to drafting preliminary literature reviews for new grant proposals annual reports on existing grants and other project documents
  • Reading and commenting on paper drafts
  • Attending meetings of PIs as requested and drafting notes on decisions and follow-ups
  • Coordinating and managing undergraduates working as part-time research assistants
  • Teaching assistance for the departments core Econometrics course during two academic terms: assisting in the development of new course resources supporting student learning by holding office hours and occasional in-class support

Postbaccalaureate Fellows (PBFs) work with faculty supporting and conducting scholarly research and teaching in anticipation of advancing their skills and experience to prepare for the next stage of their careers. PBFs are expected to contribute to all stages of research including research design literature searches conducting experiments collecting and analyzing data and writing reports and papers. PBFs may also have the opportunity to contribute in the classroom or in laboratory sections of courses helping undergraduate students with labs review sessions paper editing and grading certain assignments.

This position is full-time non-remote in-residence at Dartmouth College in Hanover NH with start date as early as July 2026. Appointments are typically for a 1-year period. The annual salary is $60000 plus fringe and benefits.

Fellows who are working in residence in Hanover NH are eligible for Graduate Special Student status and the ability to take certain Dartmouth courses with the tuition paid by Dartmouth as a working condition fringe benefit. The benefit covers a maximum of 1 course per academic year the fellow is employed and in residence at Dartmouth.

  • Bachelors in Economics or a related field completed by the start of the appointment
  • Previous programming experience (in languages such as Stata R or Python) as gained through past coursework past independent research past work experience or past research experience
  • Previous experience conducting empirical research either as a research assistant or in an independent project
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm in applying research experience to research in economics or public policy
