The Position Proposition
RB Hinkle Construction is seeking an experienced Lead Fleet Mechanic to support fleet and equipment operations in Sterling VA. This position serves as a working lead within the shop performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance while helping coordinate daily shop activities to ensure company vehicles and equipment remain safe reliable and ready to support field operations.
This role performs diagnostics repairs and preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles and utility construction equipment including bucket trucks digger derricks line trucks trailers and diesel-powered equipment.
Primary Job Responsibilities and Requirements
- Perform diagnostics repairs and preventative maintenance on company trucks trailers and construction equipment
- Take ownership of shop operations by helping prioritize repairs and ensuring fleet and equipment are ready to support field crews
- Assist with leading daily shop workflow and coordinating repair priorities
- Diagnose and repair line trucks bucket trucks digger derricks trailers and other utility construction equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical hydraulic and electrical systems on diesel equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles heavy equipment and hydraulic systems
- Inspect and maintain aerial equipment including booms outriggers and safety components
- Maintain organization of shop tools equipment and work areas
- Order and track parts needed for repairs and preventative maintenance
- Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation
- Communicate equipment status and repair needs with supervisors and operations teams
- Support company safety initiatives and ensure work is completed in accordance with safety policies
- Ability to communicate effectively with field crews; Spanish/English bilingual skills strongly preferred
Preferred Skills / Abilities
- Experience repairing diesel trucks fleet vehicles or heavy construction equipment
- Experience working with utility fleet equipment such as bucket trucks or digger derricks
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple repair tasks
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Valid drivers license required
