Post-Masters Fellow

The Counseling Center is a critical component of Student Success at the University of South Florida located in beautiful Tampa Bay on Floridas spectacular west coast.

The Counseling Center strives to support the mental health and well-being of the 44000 enrolled graduate and undergraduate students at the USF Tampa campus. Through the provision of high quality clinical services and evidenced-based practice innovative outreach consultation and education the Counseling Center is recognized and valued for its contribution to the success of an exceptionally diverse student body. The Counseling Center with a dedicated energetic and motivated team of 30 multidisciplinary professionals including licensed psychologists licensed mental health counselors licensed clinical social workers licensed marriage and family therapists and administrative support personnel is accredited by IACS and has an APA-accredited doctoral internship and APPIC affiliated post-doctoral fellowships.

The Counseling Center is committed to a team approach to client care across all staff. With a thriving and growing group therapy program interdisciplinary training programs and ongoing consultation opportunities the Counseling Center is seeking post-masters fellows with a commitment to excellence a strong multicultural orientation and who would enhance the diversity and resources of our staff.

The post-masters fellow will provide direct clinical services to the USF community through the ethical practice of culturally responsive evidenced-based individual and group therapies crisis intervention mental health consultation and prevention/outreach activities. Additionally the fellow will integrate their knowledge awareness appreciation and skills in mental health treatment for work with diverse populations ethical practice and develop a professional identity through participation in supervision seminars and case presentations that are tailored to the fellows individual needs. Fellows may serve as designated liaisons with specific campus partners that are consistent with their training and expertise.

Special Skills or Training: Post-masters fellows are expected to be knowledgeable of culturally-responsive mental health treatment and be trained in treating common presenting concerns of college-age students including anxiety depression substance misuse eating disorders and interpersonal trauma with evidenced-based interventions.

• 45%: Provides personal counseling to individuals groups and intimate partners presenting with a range of psychological concerns using evidenced-based treatment interventions.
• 15%: Assesses presenting concerns through the Centers intake and assessment process. Provides crisis intervention at primary secondary and tertiary levels including involuntary hospitalization USF community consultation and post-incident debriefing.
• 15%: Complete clinical documentation serve on center committee(s) and participate in activities pertinent to student and employee wellbeing.
• 10%: Receive supervision and engage in professional development seminars focused on post-degree growth as a clinician and development of a professional identity as an independent practitioner in social work mental health counseling or marriage & family therapy.
• 10%: Utilize expert knowledge to consult with the USF community on topics related to student mental health safety and well-being. Form professional liaison relationships with campus partners to offer enhanced mental health prevention and outreach programming. Provide crisis response.
• 5%: Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Masters degree from an accredited institution and appropriate experience and training within a selected area of specialization.
• Degree Equivalency Clause: Four years of direct experience for a bachelors degree.

  SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements
  A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required not to exceed:
  (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelors degree;
  (c) Six years of direct experience for a masters degree;
  (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or
  (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree
  Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure certification or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.
  Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Candidates must possess an earned Masters Degree in applied health sciences (e.g. mental health counseling social work counselor education couple and family therapy psychology). License-eligible as a mental health counselor clinical social worker or marriage and family therapist in the State of Florida in accordance with Chapter 491 F.S.
• Candidates must be comfortable using technology such as Microsoft Word to complete work-related tasks.
• Proficient with the use of an electronic medical record
• Internship/practicum working with adolescents and young adults.
• Interest in working with a college-aged population.
• Experience providing short-term individual and/or group therapy using theoretically grounded approaches and evidenced-based therapies.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Clinical experience with culturally diverse groups including BIPOC LGBTQ international and differently-abled students and a desire to grow in multicultural orientation.
