F.H. Collins Secondary School is currently seeking a passionate educator to join our dynamic learning community. F.H.C is a dual-track English/French Immersion school serving approximately 800 students in grades 8 through 12. We provide students with a diverse range of academic athletic performance outdoor/experiential trades and arts programs. We are proud of our strong academic programming cultural diversity and commitment to meeting the needs of all learners.

Located in the capital city of Whitehorse Yukon F.H.C sits alongside the Yukon River on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Taan Kwächän Council. Our school continuously works to honour First Nations ways of knowing doing and being and we value our deep connections with families and the broader community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent focussing on intermediate education in math science and humanities
  • Recent teaching or teaching practicum experience in junior math and science;
  • Recent teaching or teaching practicum experience in a French or bilingual setting at the middle or secondary level;
  • Recent teaching or teaching practicum experience in humanities
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Undergrad degree in science and/or humanities an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Ability to teach secondary courses in both English and French;
  • Demonstrated strong ability to plan organize assess and manage secondary students in general classroom settings;
  • Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills working with students parents staff members administrators and community agencies;
  • Experience working with and effectively supporting students with learning difficulties
  • Knowledge of and experience with literacy and numeracy strategies;
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate experiential learning cultural practices and inquiry-based programming into curriculum
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population;

Additional Information

  • French proficiency level desired: C1; C2 an asset
  • If you are interested in the teaching position please indicate clearly in your resume that you are bilingual (oral and written skills) and your proficiency in both official languages. French Language Proficiency may be tested as part of the assessment process;
  • As English is the administrative language in the Government of Yukon your cover letter and resume must be submitted in English;
  • To be a Teacher in Yukon you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;
  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Relocation may be available.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
