Overview
What You Will Do
As anEstimator you will analyze drawings specifications RFPs proposals and other documentation to prepare material quotes direct costs and labor estimates for projects and services.
A Typical Day at Prime Controls
- Preconstruction engineering review and assessment of plans and specifications.
- Review customer information todeterminematerial and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
- Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning organizing and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; anddeterminingcost effectiveness.
- Use Estimating tools to develop quotes. Update pricing database from quotes received on each bid tomaintaincurrent pricing.
- Consult with clients vendors and internal resources to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Participatein pre-submittaljob walks andmeetings tosubstantiate labor estimates andreview material costs.
- Organize and manage a process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data isutilized.
- Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs anddeterminethe reason for any discrepancies.
- Provide cost estimates and proposals for change orders typically needed within one day.
- Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
- Identifycost trends toassistmanagement in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
What You Will Bring
- Experienced knowledge of Water/Wastewater facilities
- Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings
- Ability to provide a take-off of P&IDs for process and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of PLC and/or DCS Systems
- Knowledge of Instrumentation and Control Valve Products
- Experience in developing complex estimates from 30% 60% and 90% design status
- Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines
- Advanced Proficiency in Excel. Proficient in other Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficient in pdf applications such as Bluebeam and Adobe.
- Engineering Degree or Related Work Experience

Generally roles at Prime Controls may involve moderate noise occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions and depending on the role work at heights or around airborne particles and electrical components.
