Position Summary
Basic Function
As a member of the Career Services Network(CSN)teamthis positionwillserve asanin-housecareerconsultantfor the College ofArts & Letters(CAL).
- ProvideCAL-specificand interest area career advisingin a variety of modalities including on-siteandvirtualwith a focus on careerexploration andplanningprofessional documentsgraduate/professional school preparationand implementingjobsearch strategies.
- Partner withCALand CSNcolleagues todeliverspecialized programming forCALstudentsand for select career interest areas(Art Education&Entertainment; Business). Focus on advancing the career and professional development ofstudentsthrough alignmentof advising programming and career resourceswhileengagingthe resources programming and services of the CareerServicesNetwork.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with CSN andCALsExcel NetworkteamUndergraduate Studies ( student success mental health & wellness recruitment) AdvancementMarComFaculty/Departmentsand other college staff to deliver comprehensive career services forCALstudents.
- ProvideCAL-specificand interest area career advisingin a wide range of modalities(in-person online group individual)to students and recent alumni (within 2 years of graduation) focused on careerplanningcontinuing educationand job-search resumes and cover letters.
- Connect students to resources programmingand CAL services withtheCSNthrough direct marketing outreach referrals and collaborations with colleagues.
- Work collaboratively withCALDirector ofCareer Developmenttoset goalsand delivercareerdevelopment initiativesin CAL.
- Develop and implement specialized careerdevelopmentprogramming and resources focused oncareerplanninginternship/job search strategies and professional skill-buildingforCAL students.
- Partner withCareerServices colleagues across campus to deliver joint programming including a general workshop series and careerinterestarea exploration/exposure supporting largeCSNeventssuch as career fairs.
- Build relationships with employers in collaboration withCSNEmployer Engagement Excel Networkand CAL departmentstoidentifyand promote job and internship opportunities forCALstudents.
- Integrate careereducation intoa broadrangeofCAL core curriculum.
- Partner with staff faculty and students in the School of Residential Community-Engaged Arts andHumanities(RCAH) CALsarts humanities and community engagement-focused living learning community housed in Snyder-Phillips Hall.
- Work withCALsAdvancement team toleveragealumni networks to support career development.
- Support efforts to assesstheimpact ofcareerprograms and services using a variety of assessment strategiesin partnership withCALcolleagues.
- Administer and interpret career assessments in individual and group settings including the Myers- Briggs Type Indicator Strong Interest Inventory and Focus 2.
- Supportcareer servicesdata collection and reporting efforts forCALdestination outcomes.
- Prepare written communications annual reports and multi-media materials for distribution to constituents and stakeholders. Contribute toCSNand other campus publications.
- Participate inrelevant internal and externalgroupsandcommittees focused on career services and student success.
- Work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Build and sustain strong professional relationships and networks.
- Attend present and representCSNCAL and MSUat professional conferences.
- Other duties as assigned.

Interactswith:
- Students/Alumni to adviseon job search career developmentand career planning concerns distribute information make presentations and evaluate career services.
- Faculty/Staff/Administrators to exchange information and coordinate career development and placement activities in a collaborative framework.
- Employers to identifyinternship and job opportunitiesandmarket students and degree programs.
- Co-workers to collaboratein developing implementing and evaluating goals andobjectivesin a team environment.
- CSNDirectorandAssistantDirector(s) andCALDirectorof Career Developmentand team membersto receive guidance and direction for work activities exchange informationorcollaborate onunitinitiatives and activities.
- Public to respondto inquiries and promote awareness.

Impact on Programs/Services/Operations
Inefficient processes and ineffective communications could result in the loss of job/academic/career opportunities for students. Inefficient and ineffective services and programs could negativelyimpactdesired outcomes and damage the image of the Career Services NetworkandCollege of Arts & Letters.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired by completing a masters degree in education counseling student affairs or related areas; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in career counseling human resources student affairs or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Preferred qualifications: Knowledge of career development job search techniques and employer hiring practices at the university level;Educational and/or professional background in arts and humanities;Strong desire to andexperiencewith servingstudents in a career advising role or other career-related setting teaching career curriculum;Excellent customer service skills and attitude;Strong public speakingskills and/orclassroom managementexperience;Willingness and ability to take initiative;Desire and ability to build relationships withCSN andCALfaculty/staffMSU partners and beyond ( alumni);Ability to function as a member of a team with a common goal ofunitsuccess.
