Job Description
The Senior Real Time Engineer is a key technical leader supporting the safe reliable and efficient operation of the organizations power generation fleet through advanced real-time monitoring data analysis and technical escalation support. This role leads incident response root cause investigations and reliability improvement efforts while bridging communication between field operations engineering and leadership. The Senior Real Time Engineer also drives improvements to monitoring processes reporting and dashboards and provides mentorship to build capability across the real-time engineering function.
Responsibilities
- Lead real-time monitoring and proactive intervention for power generation equipment and balance-of-plant systems to support safe operations and maximize availability.
- Analyze real-time and historical data using monitoring/visualization platforms to assess equipment health detect anomalies and reduce downtime.
- Serve as the senior technical escalation resource for complex troubleshooting and operational events; bridge communication between field operations and engineering to ensure timely resolution.
- Lead and document Root Cause Analyses (RCA) drive corrective and preventive actions and track recurrence to improve long-term reliability.
- Track and trend fleet and site parameters identify performance deviations and reliability risks and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
- Actively participate in incident response by coordinating with field teams troubleshooting operational issues and executing corrective measures to minimize downtime and optimize productivity.
- Create and maintain technical resources that support field execution (troubleshooting guides operational references reporting inputs) and ensure access to accurate records of equipment performance and incidents.
- Contribute to and lead development of technical reports reliability dashboards and continuous improvement initiatives that improve monitoring quality and decision making.
- Drive improvements in monitoring processes data analysis methods and operational support workflows; develop milestones and track progress to completion for assigned initiatives.
- Interact with vendors and third-party suppliers as needed to support troubleshooting and resolution of recurring technical issues.
- Provide coaching/mentorship to Real Time Engineers and partner teams by sharing best practices analysis approaches and operational lessons learned.
- Identify potential technical risks and support mitigation strategies that protect reliability and uptime.
- Maintain compliance with Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies by attending required training and safety meetings and using PPE.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in engineering (Mechanical Electrical Controls or related field) preferred.
- 5 years of experience in field operations or real time engineering preferably within power generation or energy operations.
- Advanced understanding of power generation equipment and operational monitoring.
- Strong experience with:
- CAT G3520 Reciprocating Generator Packages
- Solar SMT Turbine Generator Packages
- Electrical controls and gas interfaces
- Power distribution and power transformation equipment
- AC systems up to 15kV and DC systems up to 120V
- Proven ability to lead root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
- Experience with data visualization and monitoring platforms such as Power BI Grafana Sophia and multi generator controller visualization tools.
- Strong analytical troubleshooting and decision-making skills in fast paced operational environments.
- Experience supporting or working within startup or rapidly evolving operational environments is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrates a strong sense of ownership accountability and collaboration.
- Highly responsive action-oriented and capable of making sound decisions under pressure.
